Kenyan coffee industry gradually fades away, and Kenyan coffee, the pearl that stands proudly in Africa, has also lost its luster. Kenya's coffee industry peaked in the 1990s, but has since collapsed.
In the glorious era of the Kenyan coffee industry, Kenyan farmers were involved in the struggle between cooperatives and institutional organizations. Later, due to the continued low coffee prices, climate change and the promises made by cooperatives and institutional organizations to farmers, the farmers lost their desire to grow coffee, resulting in a decline in the performance of the Kenyan coffee industry and a drop in coffee prices. it dealt a huge blow to the Kenyan coffee industry.

Later, the Kenyan government began a series of interventions in the Kenyan coffee industry, aimed at reforming the country's coffee industry, the most critical of which was the introduction of a direct marketing model, also known as the "second window". To enable farmers to sell their coffee beans directly to overseas buyers.
However, only a small number of people have succeeded in selling their coffee beans directly to buyers, and reformers pushing for reform say performance is worse than ever, with many farmers still struggling in a swamp of poverty.
It is already difficult for farmers to break into the international market and find international buyers. Coupled with the planning of local cartels, it is even more difficult for farmers to sell coffee beans directly to overseas buyers. In order to export their products, farmers can only seek help from organizations set up by the government to help them export, but the managers in these organizations know nothing about coffee.

With the emergence of the "second window" sales model, three types of related licenses-processing, marketing and distribution-are required to be held. Because the process of applying for a license is full of corruption. Cannon can only cooperate with agents, but their hard work ends up with only 30% of the sales value, and the remaining 70% is pocketed by agents.
The Kenyan coffee industry now has a shaky foundation and declining production capacity. Only by improving the quality of coffee can the coffee industry return to profitability, which means that the Kenyan coffee industry has to be reformed again. In 2020, the Ministry of Agriculture of Kenya reinstated the Kenya Coffee Commission (Coffee Board of Kenya), which will register and regulate processing plants, marketing agents, purchasers, roasters, Packers, managers and warehousemen through the Coffee Kenya Act 2020.

The Coffee Committee Board will be composed of the Chairman named by the Cabinet responsible for Agriculture, three members representing coffee growers' cooperatives, two members representing coffee estates and two members representing coffee traders. It will also participate in the formulation of policies for the coffee sector and authorize the issuance of licences for new processing plants, marketing agents, purchasers, roasters, warehouse managers and value-added coffee importers.
The board of directors of the committee will also provide capacity-building, technology transfer and technical assistance to counties in the country on coffee issues, provide related advisory services for coffee production, and tax growers, importers and buyers in accordance with the provisions of the bill.
Whether this reform will bring new opportunities to the Kenyan coffee industry remains to be seen.
