On June 16th, it was announced that coffee giant JDE Peet's will buy an Australian coffee brand.
According to reports, the coffee brand to be acquired by coffee giant JDE Peet's is Campos, an Australian boutique coffee brand.
Public information shows
Boutique coffee brand Campos, founded in 2002, is one of the leaders of Australian boutique coffee. At present, its coffee products have entered 600 cafes. In addition, Campos also provides other online and offline sales methods, including D2C, retail and its own coffee flagship stores. Of course, as one of the leaders of Australian boutique coffee, in addition to supplying coffee products to the outside world. According to its official website, the brand also supplies coffee equipment and other coffee accessories.
Coffee giant JDE Peet's came into contact with coffee relatively late, with JDE Peet's first exposed to coffee capsules in 2016, and the brand has since tried to launch disposable coffee capsules.
In the Chinese coffee market, the early JDE Peet's mainly launched the coffee retail business with Peet's Coffee ("Starbucks grandparents"), which entered the Chinese market in 2017.
Until December 2019, JDE announced a merger with Peet's Coffee into JDE Peet's.
On May 29th last year, JDE Peet's went public in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and became the largest IPO,JDE Peet's in 2018, mainly packaged coffee. In the Chinese market, JDE Peet' S launched instant coffee, coffee beans, coffee capsules and other products, including Maxwell, super, OldTown White Coffee and other brands. According to its IPO information, fast consumer goods and online sales channels accounted for 79% of revenue in fiscal year 2019. Outdoor and retail coffee shops account for 21% of revenue.
JDE Peet's is listed on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange
It is worth noting that although JDE Peet's came into contact with coffee late, it did not affect the "ambition" of JDE Peet's 's layout of the coffee market.
In October 2020, JDE Peet's announced to further expand the capsule coffee market, investing 110 million euros (now about 866 million yuan) to expand the global capsule coffee production line. In other words, the brand is also ready to further dominate the capsule coffee market to sell capsule coffee. It can be seen that the coffee giant JDE Peet's is also very fond of the Chinese coffee market.
Finally, after introducing the background of these two major coffee brands, let's go back to the topic at the beginning of the article. With regard to the Australian boutique coffee brand Campos that coffee giant JDE Peet's will acquire, it is reported that JDE Peet's wants to acquire Campos mainly because the outdoor and retail coffee businesses between the two can complement each other. Of course, this acquisition agreement will also help coffee giant JDE Peet's to further develop two major coffee markets. According to reports, the two major coffee markets include outdoor coffee and retail markets in Australia and New Zealand.
The two sides have reached an acquisition agreement, and the deal is expected to be completed in July this year.
