Speaking of rose summer, many people will think of BOP, after all, rose varieties in the past, because it is too fragile, cumbersome to grow and need long-term care, so it is not liked by farmers, until 2005, the Emerald Manor used rose varieties to participate in the best Panama (Panama) competitions and auctions, winning the first place with excellent results, which also made Rosa famous. But in fact, the rose summer variety originally came from Ethiopia, and is now best known in Ethiopia for its rose summer coffee from the village of rose summer.

Guoxia Village Manor

The village of Roxia is in the westernmost part of Ethiopia, just a few kilometers from South Sudan, and is located in the wild jungle of Bench Maji (Banchi Maji). At present, the manor mainly grows Rosa 1931, Gori Rosa and disease-resistant variety Illubabor.

Rose Xia Village Manor was founded by documentary director Adam Overton and photographer's wife Rachel Samuel. While filming a documentary about coffee for the Ethiopian government in 2007, the couple discovered the Gori Gesha Forest Forest in the Bench Maji region and came up with the idea of starting their own coffee farm. Then I met Willem, the owner of the Panamanian mule farm in 2009, and returned to Ethiopia in search of Rosa's birthplace. They came to the place where Bench Maji is called Gesha Village and found the area most likely to be the pristine rosy summer. After finding the wild rose summer, we collected seeds from the native rose summer trees, screened and planted them in the rose summer village, and decided to build the manor here and call it the Gesha Village rose summer village manor.

Rose summer 1931 / Gori rose summer

Rosa 1931 (Gesha1931): the rose variety was found in the Ethiopian coffee forest in 1931 and became famous in Panama because of its tolerance to coffee leaf rust. This rose summer variety is the original rose summer variety found in the rose forest by the manor owner of the rose summer village. it is named Rosa 1931 because it is very close to the Panamanian rose summer variety in genetic comparison.

Gori Gesha: Gori Rosa was discovered in 2011, after the establishment of the Rose Village Manor, a bean species that looks like Rose Summer was found in the Gori Forest 12 miles away, so it was named Gori Rose Summer.

Iru Gbagbo (Illubabor Forest 1974): discovered during an expedition in the Illubabor Forest in 1974, a variety with antibodies was later developed by the Ethiopian Research Center and is currently only grown on the Rosa Village Manor.

Plot planting

Ruoxia Village is divided into two parts, and only one variety is planted on each plot, so the varieties can be identified by the plots. Planting Rose Summer in oma, surma and narsha plots in 1931, planting Gori Rosa in 1931, and finally planting Illubabor in gaylee and dimma plots. Coffee cherries picked in each block are labeled to indicate the source and are tracked from the factory to the export through an internal tracking system.

Coffee classification

The current coffee grading in Roxia Village is based on some business models of Panama, which is completely different from the traditional grading system in Ethiopia. At present, Roxia Village is roughly divided into five categories.

Bidding batch: the bidding batch selects some of the top coffee beans of the manor, and the cup test score should be between 92 and 88, which can only be obtained in the global bidding of the coffee estate in Rosa Village.

Gold bid batch: gold bid is the top coffee in Rose Xia Village Manor in addition to money bidding, and it is often chosen by baristas of international events to participate in the competition.

Red label batch: the cost performance of the red label batch is relatively high, the flavor intensity and complexity are slightly weaker than the gold standard, and the cup test score should be more than 88 points.

Green-marked batches: green-marked batches only provide traceability information of the land, and there is no cup test score requirement.

Chaka batches: Chaka batches are blended with rose summer, using three varieties of coffee from mixed plots in the manor, namely Gori Rosa, Rosa 1931 and llubabor.
