New study: Drinking coffee can make muscles age!

But research published last month in the journal Nature Metabolism shows that moderate consumption of coffee can improve mitochondrial function in human cells and enhance muscle health, thereby delaying muscle degeneration during the inevitable aging process.

The results of the international joint study were conducted by researchers from the Lobsang Federal Institute of Technology in Switzerland, the National University of Singapore, the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom, the University of Melbourne in Australia, the University of Tehran in Iran, the University of South Alabama in the United States, Toyama University in Japan and the University of Copenhagen in Denmark.
In the course of the study, the researchers conducted extensive investigations into the pathogenesis of muscular dystrophy and found significantly lower levels of trigonelline in older people with muscular dystrophy.
In pathology, one of the causes of muscular dystrophy is the decrease of the level of cellular helper factor NAD+, which leads to the decrease of energy produced by mitochondria and muscle degeneration. Therefore, in order to alleviate this symptom and improve muscle health, we need to improve the level of NAD+, which is the role of coffee.
Studies have found that trigonelline (trigonelline), a natural plant base in coffee beans, as a precursor molecule of NAD+, can increase the level of NAD+ and enhance the activity of mitochondria in cells, thus maintaining muscle function, enhancing muscle strength and preventing muscle from weakening with age.
Through clinical analysis and animal experiments, the researchers found that the effect of trigonelline is not only this, it even helps to maintain the function of nerve cells, thus improving the memory and learning ability of animals. It can be said that trigonelline is a "magic substance" that can resist aging in many ways.

Therefore, if you want to slow down muscle loss in the aging process, or prevent muscle loss, then through coffee intake of a certain amount of trigonelline is a good choice. However, the researchers suggest that nutritional intake and physical activity are important lifestyles for maintaining healthy muscles, and coffee can only play a supporting role.
