What is bead coffee? What is the difference between round beans and flat beans? Are coffee beans also divided into male and female? Why are PB-grade beans more expensive?
I believe that everyone has found several "special cases" in a handful of beans, and the appearance of these "special" coffee beans will be very different from other coffee beans. The common appearance of coffee beans is a semicircle, then with a flat side. But the appearance of these "special" coffee beans is not flat, the whole is an oval shape!

And on such a strange-looking coffee bean, there are several false rumors for a long time. For example, one of the most famous rumors is that this kind of bean is the "male bean" of coffee beans.
Male beans? Mother beans? Can coffee beans be divided like this? As we all know, a regular coffee fruit will give birth to two raw coffee beans. When there is a saying that coffee beans are male and female, people will naturally make up for the fact that the two fruits have different looks. An oval bean is a male bean, so a bean with a flat surface is a mother bean? But in fact, there is no distinction between male and female coffee beans. The two raw coffee beans we are talking about are actually flat! They are glued to each other in the coffee fruit, glued together by a flat plane. When we remove the peel and pulp, we can separate them into two raw coffee beans! And because of the flat surface, they are called "flat beans".
However, some coffee fruits actually grow for some special reasons (mainly affected by the planting environment), so they cannot have the nutrition to give birth to two coffee fruits, so they will abandon one bean and hatch only one coffee bean. Because there is no squeeze of another coffee bean, this coffee bean has plenty of room for growth, so it will not produce a plane deformed by extrusion, so its whole will be an oval shape. And such beans are called "Peaberry".

The number of round beans is so rare that they account for only 5% of the total beans in a serving of coffee beans. So some businessmen in Southeast Asia will use their appearance and rarity to create stories, that is, selling points, in order to sell these coffee beans at a higher price. Qianjie is here to share why these businessmen deliberately do this: because coffee bean grading systems in some countries are divided by size, the bigger the beans, the higher the price. But the round bean itself will be smaller than the flat bean, and it will be at the level of 14-15 mesh in the classification. But if the seller picks it out and matches the scarcity with the description of the story, it can be sold at the level of 17-18 mesh. And then, because of this, a whole new rumor was born. People think that since a bean enjoys the nutrition of a fruit and is sold so expensive, then the flavor is bound to be more excellent! As a matter of fact, will this be true?
Do round beans really taste better than flat beans? There is no evidence that in order to reduce the error caused by different batches, Qianjie did not specially buy round beans for evaluation. Instead, pick out the round beans from a bag of beans from the producing areas that are not graded by size, and then test the cup! (just idle)
As shown in the picture above, the front street found 12g round beans from 220g of rose beans, so start a cup test to see if there is really a difference between the two! (process skipped)
After several tasting, the experiment is over! The result of Qianjie through evaluation is: there is basically no difference! In fact, this is the same as the collection of different varieties of the same plot for mixed sale of single products, the same plot of the same variety of round beans and flat beans are not much different. Therefore, we must avoid the misunderstanding of the flavor of round beans, and do not have special expectations for its taste because of its story and its price.
