Just as different varieties of grapes produce wines with very different flavors, the variety of coffee beans is also one of the key factors affecting the flavor of the final cup of coffee. Panama's T2722 rose summer is the best example. It has attracted much attention because of its white floral fragrance and citrus fruit charm. Today, Qianjie wants to share is a star variety that also has excellent flavor performance-SL28, which comes from Kenya. Kenyan coffee's famous dark plum flavor, bright acid, and its credit.

SL28 SL28 is one of the most representative breeds in Kenya. It is a direct line of bourbon selected and cultivated in Kenya in the early 20th century. Scott Laboratory is responsible for screening and cultivating SL28. The "SL" of SL28 is the abbreviation of Scott Laboratories, and "28" is the number of the variety in the experiment at that time. In the 1930s, the Kenyan government commissioned Scott Laboratory to conduct research on coffee breeding in order to find varieties that could adapt to Kenya's terroir, could be used for large-scale cultivation, and had commercial value. Then from 1935 to 1939, Scott's laboratory collected 42 different varieties brought back from different producing areas and studied their yield, quality, drought resistance and disease resistance. In the end, many varieties stood out. SL28 and SL34 are the two most well-known varieties, and they are also the key varieties in creating "Kenyan flavor" today.

According to data reviewed on Front Street, in 1931, senior officials from Scott's laboratory discovered a coffee variety that appeared to be tolerant to drought, disease and pests in Monduli, northeastern Tanganyika (now Tanzania), and took it back to Kenya for research, where its drought resistance was confirmed. So in 1935, this variety was put into cultivation, and it was SL28. In addition to being drought-resistant, SL28 also has excellent yield, flavor and bright acid. This made it a hot rising star after it was released by the Kenyan authorities. At the beginning, Uganda, and later even major producing countries in Central America began to grow SL28, which shows its popularity is extraordinary. However, SL28 also has shortcomings. Like SL34, it is not disease-resistant and is easily infected with various coffee diseases.

The study also found that SL28 belongs to the Bourbon gene group, which means that SL28 evolved from Bourbon, so its bean appearance is round and short like Bourbon, and it is highly recognizable. Nowadays, most Kenyan coffee is produced by a mixture of SL28 and SL34. Because the two beans are very different in appearance (SL34 is a variant of iron pickup truck, with a slender figure and an oval shape), we can easily distinguish the two from one Kenyan coffee.

So far, Qianjie has tasted SL28 produced in various producing countries, such as SL28 from El Salvador and Costa Rica. They all have obvious blackberry sour aroma and are also very bright sour. However, compared to the SL28 produced in Kenya, their texture is not as thick. This has to mention the unique growing environment and processing methods of Kenyan coffee. Like varieties, they are indispensable to creating Kenyan flavor. So having said this, the front street will definitely taste like coffee! The Qianjie Kenyan Asalia in the Qianjie bean list is the object to be brewed this time. It comes from the Asalia Processing Plant in the Sika producing area. It is a single bean produced by a mixture of SL28 and SL34. The processing method is classic Kenyan washing. Front Street Coffee: Kenya Asalia
