American media: research says white cups make coffee taste more bitter
Us media say the secret to a good cup of coffee in the morning may be to choose the right color.
According to a recent study conducted in Australia, the color of coffee cups may change the taste of coffee, according to the Washington Post website on December 9. The study investigated the effects of three different colors of coffee cups-white, blue and transparent glass-on taste differences. The researchers gave 18 participants the same coffee in cups of similar shapes but different colors, and then asked them to label sweetness, aroma, bitterness, quality and acceptability.
Researchers have found that coffee drinkers have different feelings about the same coffee because of the color of the cup. Specifically, the coffee in the white cup tastes more "strong" (or bitter), the transparent glass is light, and the blue cup is "moderate".
As for sweetness, participants pointed out that coffee in white cups was not as sweet as that in blue cups and transparent glasses. Due to the small scale of the experiment, there is little statistical difference in other tastes.
It is not clear why color makes people feel different about food. One explanation is that we never look at colors alone, but with reference to other colors.
A red strawberry looks redder on a white plate than on a black plate. Charles Spence, a researcher at the University of Oxford, says the link can in turn affect taste. "Red may represent higher sweetness, because red fruits tend to be more mature than green ones," he said. " This symbolism is enough to cause a significant difference in taste.
It is also possible that a particular color is associated with a particular feeling. Specifically, in this experiment, the researchers had an intuition. They think that people may associate brown with bitterness. "White cups may affect people's perception of the brown color of coffee, which may affect their feelings about the concentration and sweetness of coffee," they wrote. " This helps explain why the transparent glass has the opposite effect because it dilutes the color.
