An overseas Chinese in Indonesia witnessed the great changes in the coffee town of Hainan
According to Xinhua Agency, Haikou, January 25 (Reporter Zhou Huimin) At 12:00 noon on the second day of the Lunar New Year, an Indonesian restaurant in Xinglong Town, Wanning City, Hainan Province welcomed a Taiwanese tourist group, and the restaurant suddenly became lively.
the owners of this indonesian restaurant are a returned overseas chinese couple, du tianjiang, 73, and his wife liang huizhen. Du Tianjiang told reporters that the restaurant opened before the Spring Festival last year. Over the past year, the restaurant business has been good. He and his wife have been busy in the restaurant all day because of too many tourists these days.
Du Tianjiang said that the reason why he opened an Indonesian restaurant in Xinglong is related to the Southeast Asian cultural characteristics here.
"Southeast Asian culture has been rooted in Xinglong for 60 years." Du Tianjiang said, for example, coffee culture, in other places are more teahouses, but in Xinglong town there are more than 100 cafes.
"And food culture." Du Tianjiang said that many snacks, such as layer cakes and coconut cakes, were brought back from Indonesia by returned overseas Chinese and have now become Xinglong specialties.
Du Tianjiang was born in Indonesia and returned to his motherland in 1960 when he was only 20 years old. "I came back full of enthusiasm, hoping to serve my country." he said. As a result of growing up abroad, Du Tianjiang felt a great gap when he first returned to China. "At that time, Xinglong was too backward, and lived in a thatched house. When the typhoon came, the whole house was overturned." "But I was willing to share weal and woe with the people here and build a new life together," he recalled.
After graduating from Xinglong, Du Tianjiang became a local middle school teacher, and later became the principal of the school. Later, he was transferred to Xinglong Overseas Chinese Farm. When he retired in 1999, he was the deputy director of Overseas Chinese Farm. "Over the past 50 years, I have witnessed great changes in prosperity." he said.
Today, Xinglong has changed from an unknown frontier town to a famous tourist attraction. Du Tianjiang excitedly told reporters that Xinglong has changed too much. Now there are hotels and buildings everywhere, and people's living standards have also improved. Xinglong coffee, Southeast Asian songs and dances, hot springs and other characteristic tourism products are very popular with tourists.
"We have also contributed to the prosperity of change." Du Tianjiang said happily. he also told reporters that he took the lead in finding experts to develop the hot springs that initially flourished.
