Elephant shit coffee is becoming more and more popular. A cup costs more than 80 yuan.
After Kopi Luwak, drinking elephant shit coffee has become a new fashion. According to the Daily Mail of June 10, luxury hotels in the Anatara scenic spot in Chiang Seng, Thailand sell hot "elephant shit" coffee to tourists. The special coffee beans are discharged after 17 hours of fermentation in the digestive tract of elephants. With a hint of caramel and chocolate mixed aroma, give tourists a unique luxury experience. But the coffee is expensive, costing $13 for a cup of coffee.
Blake, a 44-year-old Canadian developer of black ivory coffee, said he had considered producing Kopi Luwak or digesting coffee beans with lions and giraffes, but decided to choose elephants because in Southeast Asia, elephants are already looking for coffee beans in times of drought.
Producing Elephant shit Coffee is not as easy as Blake imagined. It took him nine years to succeed. "I thought just giving coffee beans to elephants would produce great coffee," Blake said. " Unexpectedly, the result of the first test was "terrible" and difficult to swallow.
Blake describes the elephant's esophagus as a saucepan, and it takes 17 hours for coffee beans to be removed. In the process, the elephant's stomach acid will break down the bitterness of the coffee beans.
Blake said that elephants need to eat 33 kilograms of coffee beans to produce one kilogram of coffee, and because elephants defecate from time to time when bathing in the river, many coffee beans are "lost."
But because of its rarity, elephant shit coffee costs $1880 per kilogram, or $13 per cup of espresso. 8% of the proceeds from its sales will be donated back to partner conservation organizations. Families of elephant trainers who pick coffee beans from elephant droppings and wash them and dry them will also be paid.
At present, this precious elephant shit coffee is only sold in upscale hotels in Asian markets such as Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong. But soon, the product will also reach high-end venues in Paris, Zurich, Copenhagen and Moscow.
Other shitty coffee
Kopi Luwak, produced in Indonesia, is one of the most expensive coffee in the world. Indonesia grows a lot of coffee crops, including wild animals called civets, omnivores, pointed mouths and dark gray fur. The favorite food is fresh coffee beans, which are fermented and digested in the body and eventually excreted by cats. Feces are grains of coffee beans and become the most expensive feces in the world. Because the quantity is very rare, so the price is very expensive. Civets are found in Indo-China, India (northeast), Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sikkim, Nepal and Kashmir, but only Sumatran civets, or Indonesian civets, can produce Kopi Luwak. After processing and baking, Kopi Luwak has become a luxury coffee drink and spread to luxury kingdoms around the world. Local coffee farmers, in pursuit of high profits, bring wild civets home to raise them so that they can produce more Kopi Luwak. However, the Kopi Luwak produced by breeding civets will be much worse in color and taste. Even so, the output of this kind of coffee is still very rare, and it is not affordable for all people who like coffee.
In fact, in addition to "Kopi Luwak" and "elephant dung coffee", many animals also make "poop" coffee for human beings. For example, there is a kind of bird poop coffee in South America.
Jacu is a kind of bird living in South America, they like to eat coffee fruit, coffee fruit after passing through their digestive system produces coffee beans of high quality. However, if you want to find bird droppings, and it so happens that there are undigested coffee fruits in the feces, you can imagine the difficulty.

Therefore, the output of bird shit coffee is even less than that of Kopi Luwak. It is said that the price reaches more than 10, 000 yuan per packet, and it can only make a few cups. Unlike Kopi Luwak, this coffee doesn't seem to be farmed yet.
