This is a common sight in Tokyo's so-called "silent cafes". Customers who enter the store are not allowed to talk and can only communicate by writing on a notepad. They urgently need such a place to escape the high-pressure rhythm of city life in exchange for a moment of solitude.

Thousand fathom, a 23-year-old nurse, arrived in Tokyo after a 90-minute trip from her home in Otahara, Kanagawa prefecture, just to enjoy some alone time while on vacation.

Her destination is R-za Dokushokan, a silent cafe on a narrow street near Gaoyuansi station. She is going to drink tea there, draw pictures in the sketch book, and enjoy the quiet atmosphere.

At the door of the cafe, Miss Dongguohara whispered, "I saw this place in magazines and Twitter, and I really want to come here."

"my job is a nurse and I am always busy. Tokyo is a busy metropolis with few quiet places. "

"I just want to find a place to sit quietly by myself. I'm going to have a cup of coffee and maybe draw some pictures. I like the creativity of this quiet and peaceful atmosphere, which is very rare. "

Ms. Watanabe is one of more than 200 customers who come to the cafe every week to sit quietly, said Dahui Watanabe, a 45-year-old store owner.

Hidden on a small staircase on the second floor, the cafe, which opened seven years ago, is like a peaceful harbor for customers: single chairs, antique wooden tables, dense green plants, a wall of books, and the gentle sound of water coming from the aquarium.
