Developing Coffee planting Industry in Pu'er Tea Township
Xinhua Yunnan Channel, November 23 (Reporter Ji Zhe Peng) Coffee trees all over the mountains are covered with red fruits, and the coffee beans under their feet are rattling in the sun. "nearly 80 mu of coffee is grown at home, and the annual income is about more than 300,000 yuan." Said Wang Middle School, a 71-year-old farmer from Dakaihe Village, Nanping Town, Simao District, Pu'er City.
Pu'er City, located in the southwest of Yunnan Province, is known as "China Tea City" and "Pu'er Tea Township" with a long history of Tea-Horse Road, wild ancient tea trees more than 2,000 years old and many modern ecological tea mountains. In recent years, the local coffee planting industry has been vigorously developed. in 2010, the coffee planting area of the city reached 230000 mu, accounting for 52.8% and 50.5% of the whole province and the country, respectively, making it the most widely planted and most productive coffee producing area in China.
Coffee has been cultivated in Pu'er City for about 150 years. The research data show that the climate, geography and soil conditions of Pu'er are unique for growing coffee. Low latitudes, the plateau climate region dominated by the humid monsoon climate in the south subtropics, the Tropic of Cancer passes through, the hot area is vast, and there is sufficient precipitation. These are indispensable conditions for the growth of high-quality small-grain coffee.
Yang Weidong, vice mayor of Pu'er City, said that since the early 1990s, Pu'er City has always regarded the development of coffee as a dominant backbone industry to adjust the industrial structure and increase farmers' income, and more and more farmers have tasted the benefits of coffee cultivation. Wang Middle School is one of 215 coffee growers in the village. Coffee beans make the per capita income of Dakaihe Village exceed 10,000 yuan.
"Coffee is grown in 54 townships (towns) in 9 counties and 1 district of Pu'er City, directly benefiting more than 20,000 farmers. In 2010, the planting area of coffee reached 230000 mu, accounting for 52.8% and 50.5% of the whole province and the whole country respectively, with an output of 21000 tons and an output value of 450 million yuan, of which 12300 tons were exported and the export value was 30.263 million US dollars. " Introduced by Yang Weidong.
Relying on good resource advantages, Pu'er has become the largest raw material supply base for Nestle Coffee Company in China. In 1992, Nestl é (China) launched an agricultural technical assistance service project in Yunnan Province to encourage and support local coffee cultivation. According to statistics, nearly 50 million yuan has been invested over the past 20 years. More than 5000 farmers have received training in planting, quality control and processing techniques provided by Nestl é.
In order to promote the development of the coffee industry and the formation of coffee culture and consumption habits, the Pu'er municipal government and Nestle recently signed a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation. According to the cooperation memorandum, the Pu'er municipal government and Nestle will further cooperate in coffee personnel training, technical assistance, brand building and cultural development in the next five years to speed up the construction of the local scientific planting system of Pu'er and increase the reserve of talents. enhance the influence of Pu'er coffee brand.
The promotion of the government and coffee giants has boosted the confidence of coffee growers. Zhong Youxiang, head of Xingxing Coffee Farmers' Professional Cooperative in Lancang County, Pu'er City, told reporters that in the future, he will continue to follow the development model of "company + base + science and technology + farmers", and plans to build an ecological coffee planting base of 5000 mu within five years, with an annual production of 1000 tons of high-quality coffee beans and a sales income of 30 million yuan.
