The Dome Mountain Cafe, located on Mount Ruwapehu in Tongariro National Park, New Zealand, was completed in 2011 by a team led by designer Grant Harris. This mountain range is New Zealand's largest active volcano, and it is also a beautiful commercial ski resort.

The cafe replaced the original dome mountain hut, which was destroyed by a fire in 2009. The bold design and construction project of the cafe was formally formed in early 2009, and the architect plans to use modern prefabricated facilities to build it. After the cabin has been completely cleared, the remaining floor will be used to build the 220-square-meter cafe. This design method was later applied to the whole construction process of the cafe.

Changing weather is most common in the mountains of New Zealand, and Mount Ruwapehu is no exception. Building a building in such a harsh environment has brought a lot of difficulties and challenges to architects. The inconvenient entrance and stringent requirements mean that the architect has to expand the cafe and make reasonable logical arrangements. Precast concrete floors are built quickly and efficiently before the snow melts.
