Last Updated: 2025/08/21, Normally, when espresso is extracted, the carbon dioxide foam in the coffee is released and sniped to form fatty coffee oil. Some of the foam is attached to the cup wall, and the rest rises and accumulates in layers according to the foam size to form a foam layer. Steam rises from the surface of the liquid and condenses on the inner surface of the coffee cup. The cup cools under natural convection, and the rate at which the aroma of coffee spreads depends on buoyancy.

Steam rises from the surface of the liquid and condenses on the inner surface of the coffee cup. The cup cools under natural convection, and the rate at which the aroma of coffee drifts away depends on buoyancy. The occurrence of these processes is related to gravity.

But NASA has come up with a solution, with the "Space Cup" cup launched by NASA and IRPI Engineering, a change from the traditional way of drinking coffee in rubber bags.

On the basis of the original space cup, the improved space cup adds an extra device to the bottom, puts the pre-made espresso capsule inside, then uses a syringe to draw hot water from the rubber bag, and then injects the hot water into the Jack at the bottom of the space cup, so that a cup of fresh coffee can be made easily. The editor said that it must be very high to drink coffee with this.

What the astronauts showed was the traditional rubber bag coffee.
