According to the data provided by the Yunnan Provincial Department of Agriculture, in 2011, the planting area of coffee in the province was 919800 mu, with an output of 65100 tons, accounting for more than 99% of the country's total, ranking first. In 2012, according to the survey statistics, the coffee planting area of the province was 1.34 million mu, with an output of 82000 tons, an increase of 45.6% and 26.1% respectively over the same period last year.
From January to September 2012, the total export volume of coffee in the province was 35300 tons, with a foreign exchange earnings of 132 million US dollars, making it the third largest foreign exchange earning agricultural product in our province after vegetables and tobacco. However, since the end of November, the opening price of Nestl é, the weather vane of coffee purchase price in our province, is only 17.9 yuan / kg, slightly lower than in previous years.
The price of coffee fell due to multiple factors
The main reason for the decline in coffee prices in our province is the increase in the output of major foreign coffee producing areas. In recent years, the major coffee producing countries in the world, such as Brazil, Vietnam and Colombia, have strengthened the management of coffee cultivation, coupled with fewer natural disasters, resulting in an increase in global coffee production (Vietnam alone has increased by 500000 tons compared with three years ago). As a result, the supply of coffee exceeds the demand in the international coffee market.
Coffee is a commodity traded in the world, and the price fluctuation in the international coffee market is also related to international financial capital. According to some coffee import and export enterprises in our province, there is the shadow of international financial capital behind the obvious rise and fall of world coffee prices in the past two years. The factors affecting the development of the world economy are becoming more and more complex, the resolution mechanism of the European debt crisis is still unclear, and the expected consumption of coffee in major coffee consuming countries such as Europe and the United States is also uncertain. These factors have a certain impact on the decline of coffee prices.
Strengthen the support for backbone enterprises
There is a lack of backbone coffee enterprises in Yunnan Province, the corresponding brand cultivation and international market development are insufficient, and the dependence on international well-known coffee enterprises is still strong, this situation is difficult to change in the short term, which is also an urgent bottleneck for the export of coffee industry in our province.
In this regard, the agricultural department of Yunnan Province will focus on implementing the integrated development strategy of brands in 2013, gradually integrating major brands such as "Hougu", "Beigui", "Yunfen", "Sanglaite" and "Yunyi". To improve the awareness of corporate brands and international market share, and strive to create 10 leading enterprises with export volume and sales income of more than 100 million yuan during the 12th five-year Plan period. And strive to win China's well-known trademarks, Chinese brand names of 3-5 brands.
Multi-pronged approach to help the industry to complete the reversal
In the past year, the relevant departments of the provincial party committee and the provincial government attached great importance to the development of the coffee industry. in view of the relatively depressed coffee consumption, they proposed to strengthen the positive report on the development of the coffee industry in our province so as to create a good atmosphere of public opinion for the production and consumption of coffee. At the same time, the relevant departments also actively supervise the coffee processing and production of coffee enterprises in accordance with the requirements of comprehensive production standards, and guide enterprises to further extend the industrial chain and improve the added value and international competitiveness of coffee products by strengthening the introduction of new processing technologies, strengthening the renewal of production equipment, and focusing on the development of deeply processed products such as roasted beans, coffee powder and instant coffee with great market potential.
For the general weak, small and scattered situation of coffee enterprises in our province, the Agriculture Department of Yunnan Province, in accordance with the instructions and requirements of the provincial government, has stepped up efforts to build the brand of coffee geographical indication products in our province, and achieved good results. At present, the certification trademarks of geographical indications such as "Simao Coffee" and "Pu'er Coffee" in Pu'er City have been approved by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, and the protection of geographical indication products of "Pu'er Coffee" has been accepted by the Yunnan Provincial Center for quality and Safety of Agricultural products. "Baoshan small Grain Coffee" has been approved for use by the AQSIQ, and the next step is to be exported to various countries in Southeast Asia.
It is worth mentioning that while building brands and innovative technologies, the agricultural sector of Yunnan Province also actively supports the introduction of international coffee multinationals and enterprise giants to Yunnan. At present, as one of the main coffee producing areas in Yunnan, Pu'er City is in the process of attracting investment from a number of international coffee companies, and the world coffee chain giant "British COSTA" has gradually set its sights on China in recent years.
