Ivory Coast will eliminate old coffee trees and increase coffee yield
Coffee farmers in Ivory Coast (Ivory Coast) will soon receive a batch of highly pest-resistant coffee seedlings to be planted across the country to increase the production of raw beans in Ivory Coast's Robusta coffee.
The campaign, led by Nestle, the world's largest producer and seller of coffee drinks, hopes to increase production in Robusta in west Africa by 40 per cent over the next six years. Currently, the annual production of robusta beans in Ivory Coast (Ivory Coast) is about 100000 tons, in other words, production is likely to increase to about 140000 tons in six years.
It is predicted that the new batch of pest-resistant coffee seedlings will produce at least 1 ton of raw coffee beans per 2.5 acres of coffee. This will greatly increase the yield, as the current yield in some areas is only 300 kg per acre, the root cause of which is the aging of the trees and the lack of timely renewal. It is estimated that more than 2 million coffee seedlings will be distributed to coffee farmers this year.
Of course, there are other reasons for the low production of raw coffee beans in Ivory Coast, such as armed conflict in traditional coffee producing areas, low market, low prices and so on.
According to records, the highest output of raw coffee beans in Ivory Coast was 300000 tons in 1998.
