According to Russia's "Communist Youth League Pravda" reported on May 10 that chemicals contained in coffee can treat retinal detachment in glaucoma patients.

Scientists continue to search for beneficial substances in coffee. Coffee is an effective treatment for glaucoma because of its antioxidant power, according to pharmacologists at New York University. Chlorogenic acid in coffee is a strong oxidant, and caffeic acid esters account for 7% to 9% of coffee. Caffeine is only 1%. Chlorogenic acid helps relieve glaucoma and effectively prevents retinal degeneration and thus retinal detachment.

In addition, coffee's antioxidant properties slow aging and may be beneficial in the treatment of diabetes.
