Starbucks coffee consumption has been growing in double digits and will double in Chinese stores.
Against the backdrop of rising consumption, China's coffee consumption has maintained double-digit growth, foreign coffee giants are also busy in the Chinese market, and Starbucks, the world's largest coffee chain, has accelerated its expansion in China. Chinese mainland plans to operate more than 5000 Starbucks stores by 2021, Starbucks announced. At present, Starbucks has more than 2300 stores in the Chinese market, which means that the number of Starbucks stores will double in more than five years.
Starbucks has opened 30 to 50 stores a year in China, which has accelerated significantly since 2012. Starbucks added 204 stores in China in 2012, 317 in 2013 and almost every day in 2014, according to financial reports.
China has become the fastest-growing market for Starbucks stores, and Starbucks has mentioned more than once in financial reports and in public that "I hope China will become one of Starbucks' largest markets in the world."
Starbucks recently announced two measures to boost the market in China. On October 19, Starbucks officially announced that Wang Jingying, former president of China, was promoted to CEO of China, and Cai Delong, former vice president of store development and design, was promoted to chief operating officer of China. This is also the first time that Starbucks has created the position of chief executive in the Chinese market. John Calver, president of Starbucks' global retail business group, said that "the new promotion will deepen Starbucks' long-term commitment to the Chinese market."
