In his coffee field, Xie Xianwen carefully observed the coffee trees that would bloom in the second round, worried about the reduction in production and quality of his coffee beans. The drought in Yunnan for four consecutive years and the decline in international coffee futures prices have shaken the Chinese coffee market.

Xinzhai Village, located at the foot of Gaoligong Mountain in Yunnan Province, is known as "the first coffee village in China". Xie Xianwen is the "farmer" of Xinzhai Village and the head of a local medium-sized coffee production enterprise.

On April 19, the reporter and his party came to Xinzhai Village, located in Lujiang Dam, Gaoligong Mountain, Baoshan City, Yunnan Province. As soon as you enter Xinzhai Village, you will see a continuous coffee field, stretching from the bank of Nujiang River to half waist of Gaoligong Mountain. Occasionally, several tall longan trees can be seen in the coffee field. Here, we met Xie Xianwen.

Gaoligong Mountain is located in Nujiang Grand Canyon and is known as "World Museum of Nature" and "World Species Gene Bank". Xie Xianwen told reporters,"Because Gaoligong Mountain more than 4000 meters above sea level and Nujiang Grand Canyon hot and humid climate, Lujiangba 'a mountain has four seasons, ten miles different days', is one of China's rare subtropical hot valleys, This is also planting small coffee unique advantages."

Xie Xianwen told reporters,"In the mid-1950s, patriotic overseas Chinese Liang Jinshan introduced the first coffee seedlings from Baoshan City from Southeast Asia. By the 1960s, educated youth supporting the frontier began to grow coffee on a large scale in Lujiangba, and at that time they were mainly handed over to the state."

By the early 1990s, Yunnan had become China's largest coffee export base, accounting for 95% of the country's total exports. At this time, the villagers of Xinzhai cut down almost all crops except coffee and planted coffee. Xie Xianwen introduced that Xinzhai coffee planting area has reached more than 12000 mu, with an annual output of nearly 1000 tons of coffee beans, 60% of which are exported abroad. Because of this, Xinzhai is known as "the first coffee village in China".

Xie Xianwen also started his own coffee industry road in such a tide. "I quit my job in 2000 to help my family grow coffee. In those years, coffee prices were good, and our family did make money."

Xie Xianwen, who has economic vision, saw that the price of coffee raw materials was seriously affected by futures, invited a partner to start coffee deep processing,"although the scale is not large, but the business is good."

Just as Xie Xianwen's coffee business was gradually rising, Yunnan suffered a severe drought in 2010, when 90% of the coffee trees in Xinzhai Village failed to harvest, and Xie Xianwen also lost more than 500,000 yuan. Many villagers began to hesitate and were ready to give up coffee cultivation.

Hsieh Hsien-wen is unwilling to abandon the coffee business. Fortunately, although these coffee trees have failed to harvest, they have not died. Also in 2010, the government invested 12 million yuan to build a stone road and water conservancy facilities for coffee planting in Xinzhai Village. Xie Xianwen began to encourage coffee farmers to pay attention to quality, but also encouraged villagers to drink coffee,"oneself do not drink, how can grow good coffee beans." instant coffee

"Now, the impact of drought on our Xinzhai coffee planting is getting smaller and smaller year by year. This year, the normal coffee harvest in our village has reached more than 80%."

This year, Xinzhai's coffee-growing industry has withstood drought. However, coffee harvests in most coffee-growing regions of the world have once again depressed coffee international futures, causing Yunnan's coffee cultivation to encounter great difficulties. In the face of difficulties, Xie Xianwen's coffee boutique road shows results. Xie Xianwen told reporters,"As long as the quality is guaranteed, our purchase price can still be raised." This year's futures purchase price is around 15 yuan, but high-quality beans can still be sold for about 30 yuan."
