A latte, a large soda and a can of energy drinks were the culprits of a South Carolina teenager who died of an arrhythmia caused by excessive caffeine intake within two hours.

Davis Allen Cripe, 16, died of "caffeine-induced heart disease that may cause arrhythmia", according to the Richland County Medical Examiner's Office in South Carolina.

Us media reported that Clapper drank a McDonald's latte, a large Mountain Dew diet soda and an energy drink within two hours.

Medical examiner Watts pointed out: "the main problem is the time frame, he quickly ingested caffeine that affects the function of the heart," adding that Clapper fainted 15 minutes after drinking energy bubbles and died more than an hour later. He continued that Clapper was in good health and that the autopsy report did not find any signs of undiagnosed heart disease.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends that adults consume no more than 400mg of caffeine a day, which is equivalent to four or five cups of coffee.
