In many cafes in Guangzhou, we can often see such people who just order a drink, maybe add some snacks, and then sit for a long time, as if they are discussing some development plan. Sometimes, they also go to cafes for activities such as salons and sharing meetings. Who are these young people? What are they doing?
They are youth organizations, and they use their actions to influence and promote society. Youth organization is not only the collective of youth group activities, growth and development, but also an important platform and form to cultivate social capital. In the era of rapid social development, youth organizations are not only an important way for young people to understand society, get involved in society and participate in society, but also an important way to train talents and develop individuals for the society.
At present, there are a variety of youth organizations in Guangzhou, including Enactus team, Black Orange Creative Commune, V Weile benefit growth Center, Baike Guangzhou, firewood Creative Space, Tongcheng Youth Resource Center, kapok Theatre Troupe, Pyramid Society, ICS Innovation Space, Lighthouse Project, Young Social leaders Field Camp, CAPEChina, DFC, Rye Project, Rice Public Welfare, AIESEC, Kai Chi Social work Service, etc. Some of these youth organizations are in their infancy, while others are very mature. But in any case, they are a platform for young people to display their talents and exercise themselves, and these organizations are full of vigor and vitality because of these strong and independent young people.
Participating in social undertakings, paying attention to social problems, helping social vulnerable groups, and realizing their own value in voluntary service and public welfare undertakings have increasingly become a new era choice for contemporary youth in their self-development. The world youth organizations are gradually strengthening and deepening their voluntary service function and social participation, and the vast number of youth organizations are playing a more and more important role in building a modern civil society and a harmonious society.
In recent years, various types of youth organizations in Guangzhou have developed rapidly. Why are youth organizations developing so rapidly and youth activities so frequent in Guangzhou? And can actually have a great social impact on society? This survey hopes that through going deep into the activities and construction of youth organizations in Guangzhou, we can understand the soil suitable for their survival, provide a prerequisite for the germination and development of youth organizations, and provide reference for the radiation development of youth organizations.
Here we select three organizations and briefly describe their basic situation. Here we will represent the representatives of the late, middle and early stages of the development of youth organizations, including the Grass Commonweal team, the Weileyi Youth growth Center and the Junior-Ivy Social practice School for Senior High School students.

In 2009, two girls, Wang Xianghe and Xiangxin, who graduated from Zhixin Middle School, came up with the idea of giving experiential teaching to the children of migrant workers, and what prompted them to act was the reports on the educational problems of the children of migrant workers that year. They hope that through their efforts, more migrant workers' children can study happily. So, this summer vacation, the grass public welfare team was set up.
As the first batch of green herders entered the university for further study, they had longer-term and broader plans for the development of green grass. at that time, Wang Xiang majored in comparative literature at the University of Hong Kong and Xiang Xin studied psychology at Harvard University. while others are also in key universities at home and abroad.
In September 2011, Green Grass began to apply to become a registered NGO organization. At that time, Xiang Xin was suspended from Harvard University for half a year to the University of Southern Science and Technology for a half-year student work experience. Wang Xiang originally planned to leave school at the top, but she had an opportunity to exchange with the University of California, Berkeley, so Xiang Xin continued to suspend for half a year until September 2012. During this period, "Green Grass" was successfully registered as "Guangzhou Yuexiu District Grass Youth growth Service Center". Because Grass needed a full-time staff to maintain its operation. Wang Xiang, who returned from the exchange, proposed to the University of Hong Kong to take a year off from school to replace Xiang Xin.
During the 2012 summer vacation, Green Grass experimented with a fee-based summer camp for senior high school students in Beijing, which was a success, and the fee-based summer camp will continue.
(2) organizational structure
Up to now, "Green Grass" has a relatively complete organizational structure, with a presidium at the top of the organization, formulating annual strategies, coordinating project operation, dealing with various development problems, and determining the development direction of "Green Grass." is the spiritual leader of "green grass". There are project team and human resources team under the presidium. There is an administrative team under the project team, which acts as campus ambassador, network media specialist, financial specialist and archives specialist, etc., mainly responsible for the daily management of "grass". The project team includes weekend camp, elective courses, A-action, summer camp and mentor program. Each small team is composed of five people, responsible for project implementation and innovation. Under the human resources team, there are human resources vice-captain and seed specialist, who are responsible for training the staff of "grass" and maintaining the personnel relationship of the whole "grass". "Green Grass" only had full-time staff in 2011, and Xiang Xin and Wang Xiang took turns to be suspended from school. The two will also continue to complete their studies in 2013 and cannot continue to serve as full-time staff. Through recruitment, two college graduates will take up full-time positions this year, and the other members will be volunteers.
Weileyi Commonweal growth Center (here as a representative of the expanded organization in the middle of growth)

Liu Haiqing, a university student at Sun Yat-sen University, joined the Association of "caring students". In the course of its work, Liu Haiqing saw more aspects of society. He saw the situation of some vulnerable groups such as leprosy, poor children in mountain areas and hepatitis B patients. So the scenes stayed deep in his mind, and he had a connection with these people ever since.
So in November 2010, Liu Haiqing and four other like-minded friends established the Weileyi Public Welfare growth Center, which is committed to providing strong support for the growth of young people and the sustainable development of the youth public welfare, hoping to let the public welfare take root in their hearts. At present, the core members of the team are mainly public welfare youth from CUHK, Guangwai, Zhongkai, Nanyi, Huanong and other universities, and people from the community are in charge of the organization. They have recruited full-time staff and plan to join the post in July 13. In 2012, after graduation, Haiqing graduate student went to a clothing company based on Taobao platform and had a decent job in the eyes of most people, but he couldn't let go of it, so he resigned seven months later and devoted himself to it.
Junior-Ivy Social practice platform for Senior High School students
(1) tissue budding
In 2012, 17-year-old Liang Xiaofan was a little girl with "high energy value". After she made up her mind to go abroad in her second year of high school, she began to look at the whole education system and found that "it's so boring!" I learned those subjects over and over again all day, and the teacher talked hard on them, and we copied them crazily below. I didn't understand any of the previous math classes. " After getting rid of the pressure of the college entrance examination, she wanted to do something fun. So the "Junior Ivy Social practice School website for Senior High School students" founded by Liang Xiaofan and his younger brother Chen Hongzheng was officially launched. The content of the website is a bit like "Douban activities in the city", but the target group is high school students. The purpose of the website reads: "through the collection of activity information, help high school students understand and participate in social organizations and activities, encourage high school students to develop individually, understand themselves from social practice, lack of understanding, and find the direction of real interest." With the support of her parents, she paid 1500 yuan out of her own pocket to ask someone to do the site.
"Open Source School (open school)" is an offline project she proposed. "this is an open education platform." Schools (that is, we) can solicit courses from people of any age, which can be on any topic (except pornography, gambling, drugs or sensitive words), such as swearing, how to make robots. The way of learning will not be limited to textbooks, classrooms, can be short-term cooperative experience projects with social organizations, can be social practice, can be online video or handmade, and so on. "
(2) organizational structure, due to the short time of establishment, the activity project mainly collects activity information and then publishes the information on the Internet, and the organization members contact with each other online. The organizational structure is not yet perfect.
A demonstration of the basic situation of their youth organizations through face-to-face interviews with core staff of these organizations and some volunteers. We synthesize the youth organizations and relevant institutions we have interviewed to analyze the growth of youth organizations in Guangzhou:
The reason why ① promotes the organization to build: to solve social problems, such as Weileyi, Blue Envelope, Grass Commonweal team. Meet your own needs, such as some creator space, interest groups, etc. A variety of team events promote, such as Enactus project teams, blue envelopes, etc.
The reason why ② members are connected: common goal, common idea.
The form of ③ member connection: online tools such as QQ, email, Wechat and so on are usually used in communication. In recruiting members, messages are usually posted on Weibo, its own website.
④ locates the development goal and determines the development strategy. Different organizations have different organizational goals, and then their development strategies are different. The orientation of some organizations is to expand the size and influence of the organization, and to solve practical problems, so it is necessary to be relatively long-term and rigorous in the formulation of development strategies.
⑤ seeks funding sources: cooperate with the foundation, participate in project competitions, and accept social donations.
⑥ forms the organizational structure and formulates the organizational system. Usually when the members of the organization are relatively stable, the organization develops for a period of time before it is formed.
⑦ financial management is standardized and transparent.
⑧ gradually expands the influence and scale of the organization.
⑩ personnel training: recruit suitable members, on the one hand, older members of the organization provide training and guidance to new members, on the other hand, set up training programs, make full use of various resources, and adopt expatriate training, visit training, cooperative training and so on. The cultivation of talents is the key to the effective operation and good acceptance of the organization.
⑨ brand communication: mainly use Weibo, Douban and other communication platforms to spread, as well as project publicity, implementation and then establish their own brand among the public.
The development of different organizations is different, but it probably revolves around the above ten aspects.
Through the understanding of youth organizations, we have found some characteristics of these organizations:
Homogeneity
The formation of youth organizations is mainly due to the spontaneous formation of people who want to achieve the same goal, have common interests and pursue common ideas, or young people with the same background, interests and similar experiences. Therefore, members have something in common.
Democratic nature
Members are often both participants and organizers of the community. In terms of internal management of the organization, members of the organization are generally able to conscientiously perform their obligations and correctly exercise their rights, which is a manifestation of self-participation and self-management. Usually, most organizational measures can be effectively implemented and implemented.
Network
Taking the network as the basic means of contact is an important feature of youth organizations. In the operation of youth organizations, the network mainly gives full play to the two aspects of forum discussion and functional services, such as member management, activity planning, information release and so on, with the characteristics of low cost, openness and freedom. make it an irreplaceable carrier in the operation of youth self-organization.
Liquidity
Youth organizations do not have a strong binding force on their members, and there are no strict procedures for members to enter and exit. Participate spontaneously and withdraw freely.
Elitism
Most of the members of youth organizations have a good educational background, some are studying abroad, some are from domestic colleges and universities. They all have a higher level of knowledge and ability, a broader vision, innovative thinking and passion for change.
According to the statistical data obtained from the questionnaire survey, on the question of how to treat young students' participation in social practice activities, 62.3% of people are in favor of it, believing that it can exercise students' practical ability, and 29.4% of people choose to approve only by giving consideration to study. There are only a few people who feel that it doesn't make much sense and takes up too much study time. We can see that most people hold a more supportive attitude towards young students' participation in social practice. Most people have a sense of approval for youth action.
We also learned from our exchanges with some young people in Guangzhou that there will be more or less traces of youth organization activities in their lives, such as some volunteer activities and volunteer activities. Infiltrating all aspects of schools and communities creates a potential culture of action that makes young people realize that they can discover and change problems through their own actions.
The open atmosphere of public opinion and the media in Guangzhou dare to expose social problems and pay attention to vulnerable groups, thus prompting young people to understand society better and discover social problems. And the media give strong support to the positive social actions of young students, and will report such deeds without hesitation, which to a certain extent encourages young people to become youth actors.
With the policy support of the government, youth organizations have a broader path of development. The Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League has also taken the lead in setting up a Guangzhou youth social organization incubation base in the whole province, which is located in the Guangzhou Youth Culture Palace, which is fully responsible for the day-to-day operation. The aim is to actively promote the growth and development of youth organizations. This also gives more people the confidence to join youth organizations.
