Recently, the owner of a small coffee shop in Manhattan, New York, took his employees out for a day of vacation, and neighbors in the community came to help with the business. Why would the boss feel at ease handing over his shop to his neighbours, and why did these neighbours come? Here's a look at what happened.

The Hudson Heights cafe was manned by neighbors.

It turned out that Sarina Prabasi, the owner, took five employees to the beach for a holiday to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the opening.

But the idea of asking neighbors to help was the brainchild of a longtime customer, Ms. Melody Morrow.

Melody Morrow: "Sarina, the owner, told me she wanted to take her staff to the beach, but she didn't want to close the shop all day. I told you we customers could help. She said maybe, I'd love to do it anyway, and maybe someone else would too."

The shopkeeper opened a volunteer registration website online, allowing everyone to help according to their appropriate time, the shortest need to work only 1 hour. There were too many people signing up, so we had to hurry up and close the deadline.

Eventually, about a dozen neighbors came to help, from stage actors to drugstore employees, and enjoyed changing roles.

Neighbor Jennifer Holst: "I started work this afternoon. It should be a slow time for customers, but I heard that it was busy from morning rush hour to noon, but I still came."

Actor Paul de Beoy: "I came because I love this place, I live in this neighborhood, I've been here for a long time. I am from 4pm to 6pm, mainly helping, making coffee, collecting money, helping customers. The customers were very nice. They knew that the normal employees were not here today. They had all gone to the beach. It's fun, and it's good for giving back to the community."

Prabasi and Mr. Prabasi run this small shop together. Besides offering Ethiopian organic coffee, latte and snacks, they also display works by artists from all over the world. It becomes a semi-gallery-like gathering place.

Melody Morrow: "You can't cheat customers when you open a local shop." If you don't do well, people won't come. Now regular customers keep coming. I'm glad to be here."

There were many familiar customers in the shop that day. Everyone greeted each other kindly and chatted while drinking. In a trance, it seemed that this was no longer busy New York, but a warm place that only existed in small towns in the United States.

Xiaobian also wants to go on vacation ~

Do any neighbors want to come over and help me write a public account for two days...
