Leslieville is about to open a new KFC, but nearby residents don't buy it! KFC claims that the delicacy made with 11 spices only gets the words "Don't open it in my backyard" from the surrounding residents. What on earth is going on?

KFC's location is 1364 Queen St. East, which used to be a convenience store.

When I was not sure about opening KFC before, the nearby residents had this attitude towards the rumor that they wanted to open KFC:

The permit to open a store for KFC was approved in July, and the surrounding residents were surprised when they learned of it. Because once KFC opens, it is likely to affect Chick-N-Joy, a family fried chicken restaurant loved by nearby residents, which has been open in the Leslieville community since 1977.

To put it bluntly, some residents are worried that KFC, which is about to open, is a sign that their community will be occupied by a wave of corporate-run giant food chains, the last thing people want to see is "gentrification".

Other communities in Toronto have gone through a similar process.

A few years ago, Junction residents were very worried that Starbucks would run on Crema, an independent coffee shop. Residents of Parkdale often worry about similar things, and the discussion of the "middle class" of the community has become a major topic of discussion after dinner. These are just two of many communities with similar concerns.

In addition to worrying about corporatization, residents don't like the taste of KFC, but ahem, KFC's French fries are not as bad as they used to be.
