Full-bodied coffee has been renamed as non-carcinogenic food by WHO, but it is anti-cancer food. What do you think of modern Chinese medicine?

Because coffee is a foreign species, there are no relevant records in ancient books. Modern Chinese medicine doctors usually judge the attributes of coffee according to the traditional classification of traditional Chinese medicine, such as "four qi, five flavors, five colors, meridian tropism" and so on. according to the appearance, color, aroma, taste, function and other comprehensive judgment of coffee.

Interestingly, coffee will produce different colors and flavors with different degrees of roasting, from light roasting to medium roasting to deep roasting, coffee beans will change from light yellow to dark brown, and the taste will also change from sour to bitter, fruity to scorched, and sweet.

Wang Kaiping, a doctor of traditional Chinese medicine at Luoxin Hospital, has taught himself coffee for eight years. He believes that the nature of coffee is more like Chinese herbal medicines that have been processed in stages, and it is not so appropriate to oversimplify the judgment of attributes by a single color or smell.

He pointed out that caffeine is one of the main ingredients of coffee, reducing drowsiness, increasing heartbeat, dilating blood vessels, excitement, diuresis and other effects. Generally speaking, the action time is short, if not for long-term drinking in large quantities, there is no clear basis for saying that it will cause physical dampness and heat. At present, there is no relevant TCM physique test left syndrome.

Kuo Chih-chang, a special Chinese medicine practitioner at Kaohsiung Rongmin General Hospital and director of the New Century traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic, believes that caffeine is generally considered "warm" in traditional Chinese medicine after the baking process.

Among them, the shallow roasted coffee is more warm and moist, the sour taste is heavier, and the acid enters the liver, which has the effect of protecting the liver and detoxifying the liver. Coffee also has a certain effect on relieving short-term headaches and boosting spirits. Medium and deep-roasted coffee is hot and dry and easy to catch fire; if the taste is bitter, bitter into the heart, too much stimulation may lead to palpitations, insomnia and emotional anxiety.

Chen Wangquan, executive director of the all-China Federation of Chinese Medicine Practitioners and professor of traditional Chinese medicine after his bachelor's degree at Yishou University, believes that coffee has a certain antitussive effect. He found that many cough relievers contain caffeine. If there is no phlegm cough, drinking some coffee will help relieve it and help the lung circulate.

Yin deficiency constitution and damp-heat constitution should drink less.

Although drinking coffee for a long time may not necessarily affect the physique, Chinese medicine practitioners agree that if they already have yin deficiency and damp-heat constitution, they should drink less coffee.

Kuo Chih-chang has seen that many coffee addicts have Yin deficiency physique caused by staying up late for a long time, abnormal work and rest, and great pressure. at this time, refreshing through coffee not only has a bad effect, but also destroys the body.

He explained that medium and deep-roasted caffeine can be roasted for a long time and will be hot and dry. people with Yin deficiency constitution tend to get angry, dry mouth, constipation, and sour eyes over a long period of time. They are not only addicted to coffee, their refreshing effect is declining, but they have even seen patients develop baldness.

At this point, he will advise patients to gradually reduce their coffee intake and prescribe prescriptions for replenishing qi, so that patients can boost their spirits and do not have to rely on coffee.

Among the damp-heat constitution of traditional Chinese medicine, "damp-heat of the liver meridian" and "damp-heat of the bladder meridian" are easy to have the so-called "short red urination", that is, a small amount of urine each time, dark yellow color, often combined with frequent urination and urgent urination. At this time, if you drink more coffee, it may make urination more frequently, and the warm nature of coffee is not conducive to the treatment of febrile diseases.

People with stomach yin deficiency and damp-heat constitution are prone to excessive stomach acid, and then drinking coffee is more exciting, gastroesophageal reflux is easy to occur. Wang Kaiping suggests that people with severe hot constitution, or moderate and severe damp-heat constitution of liver and bladder meridians, should drink less coffee. Pregnant women and teenagers have also suggested that it is better to drink less so as not to affect the concentration of the fetus and learning.

Remember to take traditional Chinese medicine at intervals of 2 hours

If you take traditional Chinese medicine, remember to discuss it with your doctor to make sure it is appropriate to drink coffee.

Chen Wangquan pointed out that if you take traditional Chinese medicine related to renal anemia, the caffeine in coffee will interact with each other to produce alkaloids, which will hinder drug absorption and reduce the effect in the body.

Some drugs have addition and multiplication effects. Guo Zhe-chang, for example, the traditional "Chuanxiong Cha Tiao San" must be taken with hot tea. Now, after being changed into a scientific traditional Chinese medicine, there is tea to enhance the curative effect through the caffeine in the tea. If you drink coffee again, it will have the effect of adding and multiplying, resulting in an overdose, so avoid it. In addition, medicines for tonifying qi and warming yang should also be avoided taking with coffee.

To be on the safe side, Chen Wangquan recommends taking any traditional Chinese medicine at an interval of 2 hours to avoid interaction.

Drink a moderate amount of coffee, but light roasting is better.

In addition to paying attention to physical fitness and wanting to drink coffee to promote health, traditional Chinese medicine doctors suggest choosing black coffee with less caffeine and no artificial additives as far as possible.

Wang Kaiping points out that the variety of raw beans, the way of baking and extraction, and the amount of drinking all affect the amount of caffeine consumed by the human body. During extraction, the longer the coffee powder is exposed to water, the more caffeine will be dissolved. For example, the caffeine content of hand-brewed coffee is higher than that of espresso, which is "stronger" in the big family's impression.

Guo Zhe-chang, on the other hand, tends to use coffee as a medicine and does not recommend drinking too much. If you want to drink, you can choose light roasted coffee, less caffeine, taste the fragrance is fine, but do not drink too much addiction.
