Coffee: not only refreshing but also causing trouble

Last Updated: 2024/09/17, Information from the domestic medical community shows that since the start of the World Cup, the number of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular patients going to the hospital has increased, and six Chinese fans died after staying up late to watch the game.

These days, as the game becomes more and more exciting, the spirit of many fans is getting worse and worse, so many people hope to refresh themselves by drinking coffee. In this regard, experts warn that in the case of fatigue, drinking more coffee will cause health problems.

Case: young "white-collar workers" have a tight chest.

Li Ming is already a department manager of a large foreign-funded enterprise at a young age, with a high salary and a lot of pressure. However, no matter how busy it is, how can the quadrennial World Cup be missed? Three games in one night, it hurts to leave any game behind. But what if I don't have the energy to go to work? Li Ming drinks coffee to refresh himself. Later, the coffee pot was surrounded by the fragrant coffee pot when watching the game at night.

When colleagues chatted, Li Ming was very proud: "make a pot of coffee and taste it slowly, so that you can calm down and enjoy the art of football with a clear head." However, just three days ago, Li Ming began to feel that he was "calm". As I drank the coffee cup by cup, I felt my heart beat faster. He was so nervous that he was completely out of his former ease. In particular, sometimes there will be temporary chest tightness.

Li Ming went to the hospital, and the doctor did not find any organic diseases, but reminded him that he should never drink so much coffee every day, otherwise his heart would be overwhelmed and cause more trouble over a long time.

Relieving doubt: coffee leads to "heart attack"

The main component of coffee is caffeine. Most instant coffee contains 3% ─ 4% caffeine, and a cup of brewed coffee contains about 150mg caffeine. Caffeine can exhilarate, improve brain activity and increase appetite, but drinking coffee can cause a lot of problems.

Drinking more coffee can cause heart disease. Through long-term research, several medical experts in the United States have found that a person who drinks five or more cups of coffee a day is twice as likely to have a heart attack as those who do not drink coffee. They examined and tested 1000 long-term coffee drinkers, some of whom drank coffee intermittently for five years and others for 25 years. The results showed that the longer they drank coffee, the more likely they were to have a heart attack.

Medical research has also confirmed that drinking 3 cups of coffee in a short time (within 1 ─ 2 hours) may cause emotional tension, anxiety, shortness of breath, etc.; drinking more than 10 cups may cause some toxic phenomena, such as tinnitus, nonsense, blurred vision, arrhythmia, shortness of breath, muscle tension and muscle tremors; and drinking more than 100 cups continuously can lead to death.

Researchers at the University of Toronto in Canada have conducted similar experiments. They found that some people had a slow metabolism of caffeine and that if they drank two to three cups of coffee a day, their risk of heart disease increased by 36%. Four cups or more increased the risk factor by 64%.

In addition, coffee addicts over the age of 50 are four times more likely to develop the disease than those who drink only one cup of coffee a day.

Coffee contains other substances besides caffeine, and it is not clear whether it is caffeine or a combination of chemicals that cause damage to the cardiovascular system.
