According to reports, the global coffee chain giant SBUX-US will use MSFT-US 's Azure blockchain service to track the entire coffee supply chain.

Starbucks initially announced its "from beans to Coffee" (Bean to Cup) plan in 2018, saying it would work with farmers in Costa Rica, Colombia and Rwanda to test a blockchain-based coffee supply chain tracking system. It is said that the system will allow customers to track their coffee from the initial production to the final product through Starbucks applications.

In addition, Starbucks is expected to open up new financial opportunities for coffee farmers. The company said it had partnered with more than 380000 coffee bean farms last year and would open a pilot program to share its findings.

On the other hand, Starbucks will also use Microsoft's Azure cloud products to connect coffee devices to the Internet of things (IoT) to maintain coffee equipment in Starbucks 30000 stores, such as coffee machines, bean grinders and blenders. Starbucks believes that connecting devices to the cloud will be easier to maintain and update. Today, these devices operate for nearly 16 hours a day, and daily failures weaken the operation of the store. In addition, when all devices are connected to the cloud, Starbucks will be able to update menus more quickly. Previously, Starbucks had to send out thousands of USB to upload manually, a process that took weeks. After connecting to the cloud, the company only needs to send updated recipes through the cloud.

Microsoft's Azure blockchain service, first launched on May 2, is a blockchain-as-a-service (BaaS) platform that allows users to build and manage blockchain-related applications through Azure cloud services, and allows developers to focus more on service applications. The platform also currently supports JPMorgan Chase's platform Quorum based on Ethernet Square.
