What is the correct way to drink standard American coffee? Is the ratio of authentic American coffee to water pure black?
You may recall that when we walked into a coffee shop and read the menu, most of the first drinks we saw were "American", and it was also the most popular drink in many stores. So why does everyone like American coffee?
Why is American coffee called American?
We can probably think from the name that Italian coffee should come from Italy, while American coffee should come from the United States.
The rise of American coffee began in the 18th century. At that time, Americans expressed great dissatisfaction with the high import tariffs imposed by the British government on tea, so the "Boston Tea pouring incident" broke out in 1773 and advocated switching to coffee. Gradually, the number of cafes in the United States continues to expand, prompting the coffee industry to flourish in the United States. By the 1880s, about 1 per cent of the world's coffee beans were sold to the United States. During World War II, American coalition forces consumed a lot of coffee every day to ease the monotony of life and boost the spirits of soldiers.
However, Italians are used to drinking espresso with a strong taste, and the US military is not used to such bitterness, so they dilute the coffee liquid with water to reach the concentration they accept. Later, in cafes opened in the United States, the Italians also "do as the Romans do" to launch "coffee with water" based on Italian concentration, which is very popular. Later, this kind of "coffee with water" was called "American Americano".
What kinds of American coffee do you have?
American coffee consists of espresso liquid extracted by an Italian coffee machine with water, without any other accessories, so it is a kind of black coffee. There is no specific standard for the proportion of American coffee, which means that the American style made by each coffee shop may be different, which will be determined according to the taste characteristics and cup size of the coffee beans used.
For example, the American coffee produced by Qianjie store uses sunflowers roasted by Qianjie to mix coffee beans. Ideally, it should have the flavor of wine, vanilla, cream, chocolate and berries. In order to highlight these aromas, Qianjie, after many comparisons, finally determined the proportion of 1VR 4.5, that is, 40g espresso was mixed with 180g hot water, and when making iced American coffee, it was replaced with 100g ice cubes and 120g water, that is, 1RV 2.5R3. This iced American coffee is moderate in concentration, sweet and sour and refreshing.
In addition to American style, another Long Black is beginning to be added to the menu by some coffee shops. In Australia, people generally use Black Coffee to call black coffee. Long Black is generally translated as long black and Australian black in China.
Qianjie looked through the relevant materials and noticed that the most obvious difference between Americano and Long Black is the amount of water added. American coffee is first extracted from espresso and then diluted with water. The ratio of espresso to water is 1: 5: 1: 8. While the coffee flavor of Long Black is stronger and smaller than American coffee, the barista will extract two espresso (40g) into a cup containing 100-120ml water, retaining rich Crema on the liquid level. So Long Black is the most full-bodied and mellow when drinking the first sip, and the flavor behind it will be clearer and cleaner.
Why does everyone like iced American coffee?
As mentioned above in Qianjie, American coffee has the highest yield on the menu, about 80% of which are iced, and only a few are hot American. Why is that?
Qianjie has compared ice American coffee, warm American coffee and hot American coffee, and found that the flavor of hot American coffee is the fullest and mellow, while the taste of ice American coffee is sour and sweet, fresh and bitter, while the taste of warm American coffee is peaceful, and the flavor and taste are not prominent enough. Therefore, generally no coffee shop will launch the normal temperature American style, compared to the hot American style with strong coffee flavor, everyone prefers ice drinks with clean and refreshing taste. For workers who need to get up early to move bricks, a cup of iced American coffee can not only solve the problem of insufficient caffeine, quench everyone's greasy and thirst, but also satisfy the taste buds, and the price is very close to the people, so they naturally like it even more.
