Nyeri (Neary)

Neri has always been a classic coffee producing area in Kenya, relying on Mount Kenya, with a favorable environment for coffee growth. Othaya cooperative society

Coffee from the Othaya Coffee Farmers' Cooperative, which has been operating since the 1950s, now has 18 washing treatment plants in the Nyeri producing area of the central highlands of Kenya, about 120km north of the capital Nairobi, is currently the largest coffee farmers' organization in Kenya, which is almost self-organized by small farmers and is Fairtrade certified.

It has 19 wet treatment plants (Thuti,Chinga,Ichamama,Mahiga,Kagere,Gatuyaini,Kamoko,Kiaguthu,Kiruga,Gichichi,Iriaini,Gatugi,Rukira,Kiaga,Gura,Kagonye,Kamoini,Karuthi,Gitundu) and one dry treatment plant.

Rugi Farmers' Cooperative

Rugi Farmers' Cooperative (FCS) was registered in 2005 and has about 4500 active members. Only about 600 members sent coffee fruits to the Igutua factory, which is located in the Mukurweini district of Neri county. The rest of the factories are handed over to one of the other factories in the cooperative, including seven (Mihuti,Giathugu,Mweru,Kanyiriri,Mutitu and Karundu are other factories)

In general, Kenyan coffee has a unique bright acidity with tropical fruit flavors of blackcurrant, grapefruit or lime, tomato or tamarind, and pineapple.

The common SL-28 and SL-34 tend to be juicy and vibrant, while the bourbon varieties of French missionaries show more creamy and lemon flavors.

The flavor also varies from region to region. Kenyan coffee in Neri County tends to contain more fructose, juicy taste and strong sour taste. Kenyan coffee in Enbu County usually has more brown sugar and is generally more balanced. Kirinaga coffee has more floral aroma, more refined quality and complexity.
