Thunguri Coffee Factory, a small company run by Simon Mathenge, is a true testament to the greatness of Kenyan coffee. Many small farmers in the area grow SL28, SL34 and Ruiru 11 coffee nearly 5400 feet, send the harvested coffee to the Thunguri coffee factory, wash and dry it on raised beds.
The treatment facility is located near the town of Karatina in the Kirinaga region of southern Kenya. Founded in 1987, the factory is a central processing station for farmers in the villages of Gathundie, Gathiruini, Thunguri and Kaguyuu. About 800 active small farmers use the facility.
