Front street-introduction of Robusta coffee beans

What is Robusta?

Robusta is a natural variety of West Africa, grown in areas with lower elevations and higher temperatures. It basically includes the output of the rest of the world's coffee. Its coffee beans are small and round, but they contain nearly twice as much caffeine as Arabica, and this high caffeine has become a natural insect repellent that helps ward off most pests, making Robusta coffee cheaper and easier to grow. In addition, because brewing brings more crema, Robusta is often used in formula beans.

Although Robusta has its own advantages in quality, it is not a popular coffee. In fact, most coffee lovers reject Robusta, mainly because it is commonly used in instant coffee or poor-quality formula beans, thus producing products of lower price and quality. Once roasted and brewed, Robusta's coffee is often described as bitter, sharp and with wood and rubber flavors. Although Robusta is unpopular among most coffee lovers and is not the first choice for mass consumption, it still has its supporters.

The bitter taste of robusta coffee will dominate, and the flavor is not pleasant. Excellent robusta coffee will show a good fragrance and sweetness of mugi-cha, while the common robusta coffee beans will have an obvious "Rob flavor". It is similar to the burnt smell of mugi-cha, accompanied by a fishy smell and musty smell.

In coffee, mixed beans generally refer to the blending of coffee beans, and what we call blending is generally "blending coffee beans with different characteristics produced from different places", so does Robusta blending mean: match the Congo with Brazil? Or Indonesia, Vietnam and Brazil?

Take a sip of coffee extracted from 100% robusta beans, and you will find that the bitter and spicy taste is harder to swallow than the worst traditional Chinese medicine you have ever tasted, so we usually mix robusta seeds with Arabica beans. For example, the famous coffee brand Lavazza dominates the coffee market with its classic 7:3 match of 70% Arabica: 30% Robusta.

Adding Robusta coffee beans to the mix can not only increase the concentration and alcohol thickness of the coffee, but also reduce the cost, so as a sharp tool to adjust the price, Robusta is regarded as a treasure by roasters to some extent.

Knowledge: "Arabica" is not synonymous with good coffee, even if it is Arabica, there are hierarchical differences.
