Introduction of Qianjie-bourbon varieties
One of the lines in the history of coffee breeding was introduced from Yemen to Reunion in 1715. Bourbon coffee was the first variety to be grown in Reunion on this line. The place was later occupied by France, which was during the reign of the French Bourbon dynasty, hence the name Reunion, also known as Bourbon Island, where the coffee varieties grown here were called bourbon seeds, and later, after the French Revolution, the island was called back to Reunion, and although the Bourbon dynasty collapsed and Reunion returned to its name, the name bourbon coffee survived.
Bourbon is the product of a genetic mutation of the original Tybika species on the island of Reunion, and it is also the patrilineal and even paternal variety of many popular Latin American coffee varieties, including Kaddura, Kaduai, Pacas, New World, etc. Bourbon is still popular in Latin America today, crossing the ocean to Africa and taking root in Rwanda and Burundi. The ripe fruits of bourbon are mostly red, and there are also yellow or orange varieties. The output of bourbon is about 20% to 30% higher than that of Tibica; although the flavor is slightly sweeter and sometimes more balanced, the two varieties of coffee are generally very similar.
Huang Bourbon:
In 1871, a strange phenomenon occurred in Botukatu, Sao Paulo, Brazil. The Typica variety suddenly turned into yellow berries instead of red ones. There are no such beans in the local records, so they are simply called yellow Botukatu. Farmers are curious about the color of the beans and have been trying to cultivate them. Some researchers at that time thought it was a natural variety of red bourbon.
In 1930, Huang Bourbon's name officially appeared because it was first found on a red bourbon farm near Pednellas, Brazil, which produces yellow coffee fruits by producing red bourbon. Therefore, some people say that this is a natural hybrid between red bourbon and yellow Botokatu. (I don't know what the logic is.)
The matter attracted the attention of the Brazilian Institute of Agricultural Research (Agronomic Institute of Campinas). Carlos Arnaldo Krug began to study Huang bourbon in 1942. He discovered the genetic origin of the color of coffee beans. Simply put, the dominant gene AaAa makes coffee beans produce red fruit, while the invisible gene aaaa makes yellow fruit, yellow bourbon is aaaa. The ripe yellow color of this bean can be said to be the representative of bourbon is coffee beans.
Knowledge: iron pickup and bourbon, the two ancient varieties, have multiplied for three hundred years in different soil and water in the new world, creating thousands of varieties and hybrids.
