Coffee basics 3 steps to make the best coffee at home
With regard to boutique coffee, Qianjie Coffee has published many articles on how to make better coffee at home. We can spend hours outlining how to make delicious coffee, but there are three easiest and easiest ways to always stand out that can significantly improve your home coffee operation.
Buy high quality grinder
It is important to have a grinder because coffee tastes best when brewed immediately after grinding. Uniform grinding is very important for good extraction. Consistent grinding particles can achieve more uniform extraction, resulting in a more balanced coffee.
Think of it this way: when you bake potatoes, you want them to be sliced as evenly as possible. So that all the pieces can be cooked evenly. If there are large and small pieces, the large pieces are not fully cooked before the small pieces are cooked. A similar concept applies to coffee. If the size of the ground coffee is uneven, enough soluble material cannot be extracted from the large coffee powder, while too much material is extracted from the smaller coffee powder, resulting in uneven brewing.
There are many different price grinders to choose from, but not all products are the same.
Use electronic digital scale
Just as the use of the right proportion of ingredients in a cake or biscuit formula is essential to achieve good results, the use of the right ratio of coffee to water is essential for making delicious coffee. Many of the best bakers in the world use scales to make sure they keep making the best cakes or cookies over and over again. Similarly, many of the best baristas we know use scales to ensure coffee consistency. This may make you wonder why it is measured by weight rather than with a reliable coffee spoon.
When making coffee, the right ratio of coffee to water ensures consistency and repeatability: depending on your brewing method, use about 1.6-2 grams of whole bean coffee per ounce of water. Different coffees from all over the world have different densities and physical sizes. The roasting properties of coffee also affect the weight. This means that one spoonful of whole bean coffee may weigh 5 grams, while the other may weigh 8 grams-even if they look like the same amount of coffee in a spoonful. In our example, if your preferred recipe is to use 4 tablespoons of coffee per pot, it is 20 or 32 grams, a difference of 60%! Regardless of the type of coffee or the degree of roasting, weighing coffee gives you consistency and gives you more control over the coffee you make.
Like the grinder, the scale has many choices.
Use clean water
Water is the unsung hero of coffee brewing, probably the least considered ingredient in making delicious coffee-considering that 98% of brewed coffee is water, this is crazy! With this in mind, it is easy to understand why the use of clean water is so important. If your water tastes like chlorine or other chemicals, these tastes will get into your coffee. If the mineral content in the water is too high or too low, it will affect the extraction, especially if the mineral content is too high, it will lead to faster accumulation of mineral scale in the brewing equipment.
To avoid getting too complicated, just make sure your water tastes good and has a moderate mineral content. If you use tap water at home, use a simple carbon filter to detect taste and smell-just like a Brita filter. If you buy bottled water for coffee, we recommend that you use spring water instead of water marked "drinking water". Do not use distilled water to make coffee; its lack of minerals can actually corrode your equipment.
Pay attention to these three things at home, and you will always make better coffee.
