Ethiopian Coffee production areas SIDAMO and SIDAMA
When it comes to the well-known coffee producing areas of Ethiopia, Ethiopia, and Sidamo, the country did not apply for trademark patents for these areas until as late as 2005 to protect the country's hard-working coffee farmers and to improve the quality of coffee beans.
Unlike other countries, Ethiopian coffee farmers are run by cooperatives made up of many small farmers. Because of the diversity of microclimate and topography in the producing areas, and the local Xiaonong also adopts a planting method between large-scale farming and semi-forest, it has created rich changes in Yiguo coffee, which often gives people a pleasant feeling of drinking coffee.
Sidamo, located in the southern plateau of Ethiopia, was once one of the best-known producing areas, and another big coffee producer is very suitable for growing coffee because it is located in the highlands, with abundant rainfall, fertile soil and elevations between 1700 and 2200. The distribution of producing areas is relatively scattered. The boutique coffee produced in this area is rich in flavor and is famous for its floral, grape and citrus aromas. After the administrative rezoning of Ethiopia in 1995, the provincial system officially disappeared in Ethiopia and was replaced by Region (region), Zone (District), Woreda, Area, etc., and the areas originally belonging to Sidamo Province also had a product resume according to the new administrative region (for example, Yega Xuefei was assigned under GEDEO Zone District of the Southern Nation State (SNNP Region). Guji is independent into a district in OROMIA Region). And the only producing area that leaves some Sidamo shadow is Sidama.
There is a saying about these two names that the people of this land are called the Sidamas, and in the past, when a king occupied the area, in order to show his majesty and humiliate the local people, he called the land Sidamo. The name has been handed down in this way, so a few years ago there was a local social campaign to stop using the name Sidamo. The CoE Excellence Cup was held in Ethiopia for the first time in 2020. Sidama won numerous awards, and people began to pay attention to this producing area overnight, so it was upgraded to become an independent West Dama District after voting in 2020.
