The recent "Manner incident" that has caused a sensation in the coffee industry has not been completely quelled, and the brand has been caught in a new controversy over the number of employees who do not pay social security as expected. This morning, the topic of # people's and Social Affairs Bureau's door-to-door investigation of Manner# went viral on Weibo and attracted the attention of netizens.
According to the Southern Metropolis Daily, the industrial and commercial information of Shanghai Yinhe Industrial Co., Ltd., the parent company of Manner, showed that the company was founded in October 2015, and the number of people insured in 2023 showed that it was 1225.
But according to public data, Manner opened its 1000th direct store in October last year, having previously set a target of 2000 stores. Manner Coffee has 1295 stores as of June 10, according to data on narrow-door dining eyes.
Although stores across the country have employed part-time workers in order to meet manpower needs in the past six months, even if only 1 to 2 full-time employees are arranged in each store (the actual number of employees in individual stores can reach 3 to 5), the number of people insured is also far lower than the actual total number of employees, thus causing a number of netizens to doubt whether Manner will pay full-time social security for all employees.
When a reporter visited the company headquarters of Manner in Jing'an District of Shanghai yesterday, it was learned that the law enforcement brigade of the people's and Social Affairs Bureau conducted a field investigation on Manner in the morning.
Law enforcement authorities responded to reporters after the investigation, saying, "the company (Manner parent company) said that it implemented comprehensive working hours on a quarterly basis. Arrangements for rest and payment of overtime were made in accordance with the regulations. There are no cases of non-signing of labor contracts, non-payment of social security and deduction of overtime pay. Our law enforcement brigade has asked the unit to submit written materials as soon as possible, and the details are under further verification."
It is reported that on the day of the law enforcement investigation, a staff member who claimed to be in charge of media affairs at Manner Coffee also responded to recent questions of public concern.
As for how the three videos posted online were released, the staff member said, "We have reached a conclusion internally, but it is not convenient to disclose it." In addition, in response to the unreasonable staffing of the stores and the fact that some stores have only one employee, the staff also replied, "We may adjust the one-person store later, but this is a very complex operational issue. It can't be added from one person to two immediately."
When asked about the treatment of front-line employees, the interviewees said, "this is actually a common problem in the coffee chain industry, but we have also investigated that the salary level of Manner Coffee is in the upper-middle level in the whole industry." On the treatment of future employees, it said that "the company will have specific measures to improve the work comfort of baristas."
