Panama is well known in the global coffee market. Although the output is not high, Panama is famous for producing rose summer varieties with delicate floral, jasmine and peach aromas. In addition, Rosa has become one of the most popular coffee varieties in the world, and has won record-breaking bids at many coffee auctions.

As a result, many people may think that Panama is the birthplace of the rose variety. Although it is the coffee producers in Panama who have tapped the potential of the rose summer variety, Panama is only the birthplace of the variety. The real birthplace of the rose summer is in Ethiopia, which is an Ethiopian local variety.

Originally in 1930, British colonial explorers came to the Gesha area near the Kaffa Forest in southwestern Ethiopia and discovered the rose variety, which was thus recorded as Geisha (Gesha was mistakenly recorded as Geisha due to language difficulties).

The variety was then sent to research stations in Kenya and Tanzania and then brought to CATIE (Centre for Tropical Agriculture and higher Education) in Costa Rica in 1953, where it was recorded as Geisha T2722 (T means the centre is located in the city of Turrialba, Costa Rica).

At this time, it was found that the variety had resistance to leaf rust and was distributed to Panama in the 1970s, but the rose variety was too fragile to be favored by local farmers, so it was not widely planted, but because of its tall plants, some estates were still planted as windbreaks.

Until the Emerald Manor (Panama Geisha Hacienda La Esmeralda) after a harvest, through the cup test found that one of the coffee beans in the flavor has a very unique citrus fruit tone and flower aroma, so began to separate separate treatment.

Then in 2004, the Emerald Manor used the Rose Summer variety to participate in the annual Best Panama (BOP) competition. Rosa received a very high rating, won the championship with a very high score, and became famous in World War I. After that, the champion Rosa coffee beans sold for $21 a pound at a later auction, breaking the record at the time.

After that, the rose variety became more and more famous, and more and more coffee estates in Panama began to introduce rose planting, thus raising their popularity, such as Alida Manor, Aurora Manor and so on. In addition, other coffee-growing countries also introduce Rosa varieties, but due to differences in geography, climate and treatment, the flavor of Rosa varieties grown in different manors in different countries is different.

In addition, it was the Japanese who first came into contact with coffee in Asia. when the Japanese came into contact with the rose summer variety, the pronunciation of Gesha was the Japanese word for "geisha" and "geisha", so they called the rose summer coffee bean "geisha." later, when Taiwan came into contact with the rose summer variety through Japan, it also used the name "geisha," but it was only later that domestic raw bean merchants named Gesha "Rose Summer."

At present, in Qianjie Coffee, there are many kinds of rosy summer coffee beans from Panama, green label rosy summer and red label rosy summer produced by Jade Manor, as well as Rose Summer Coffee beans from Panamanian Pokuit producing area in the same producing area as Jade Manor. This Pokuet Rose Summer Coffee beans are washed and moderately roasted. After cooking, they will smell jasmine, lemon-like acidity, bergamot and honey flavor, green tea-like taste and refreshing taste.
