A complete list of coffee bean names and their meanings! What is Yejia Shefi coffee? Where is Mantelin coffee?
Many years ago, the naming method of coffee was very simple, and most of them were directly named after the producer's region. For example, coffee produced in Yega Shefi is called Yega Shefi coffee, coffee produced in Honduras is called Honduran coffee, coffee produced in Brazil is called Brazilian coffee...
But gradually, the naming methods of coffee began to diversify. Rose summer, fruit tinding, flower queen, small tomato, etc. These are the names of coffee beans. There is no similarity between these names, so many new friends cannot grasp the rules and understand the meaning of the names of coffee beans. Therefore, in Qianjie stores, you can often see many friends stopping in front of the bean list blackboard on Qianjie, trying to interpret the information in the name, but most of them end in failure, and then turn to Qianjie to "seek help" to answer the specific meaning of the name.
So today, Qianjie will come again to share with you how to name the names of these coffee beans and how we should understand the meaning conveyed by the names. In fact, it is easy to understand that the reason why early coffee was directly named after the origin of origin was because the coffee beans at that time did not emphasize too much various traceability information, and almost all of them were processed with mixed beans when sold. This leads to the unique flavor of coffee being submerged in the names of various countries and producing areas.
With the spread of the concept of fine products, everyone began to pursue the unique and concrete "regional flavor" of coffee, such as bright citrus acid, wild berries, and red wine charm. But if coffee wants to highlight the regional flavor, producers need to improve the quality of coffee from the source. In order to improve the quality of coffee, producers make various meticulous management from various aspects. Then they will separate this information to increase the exposure of the product. As a result, the naming method of coffee has changed, from the original "regional name" to "region + small production area/producer/variety/product name."
Yega Shefi of Ethiopia is a very good example! There are two coffee beans from Yekashefi in the Qianjie bean list, and we can read from the names of the two coffee beans the specific village/processing plant/cooperative where they are produced. They are Yekashefi Goddin and Yekashefi Konga from Qianjie. The former comes from Yekashefi's Goddin Cooperative, and the latter comes from Yekashefi's Konga Cooperative. In addition to the cooperative, we can also see coffee beans with some manor names. For example, Emerald Manor, Alida Manor, Duncan Manor, etc. Then these names mean that most of the breeding and selection of coffee beans to packaging and export are independently completed by this estate. The difference from the former is that a manor refers to a privately owned and independently operated farm, while a cooperative refers to an organization jointly and jointly managed by farmers. (The cooperative collects coffee cherries grown and harvested by different coffee farmers, then hands them over to the cooperative for unified processing, and sells them in the name of the cooperative. In addition to the different operating nature of the treatment plant and the cooperative, other processes are quite poor)
In addition to producers, in order to emphasize the rarity of some varieties or their varieties, producers or purchasers will incorporate the variety name into the suffix of the coffee bean name. For example, the word "Panamanian Elida Estate·Caduai" in the Front Street Bean List means that the bean comes from Elida Estate in Panama, and then the variety is Caduai; or the Queen's Estate of Brazil·Yellow Bourbon, which means that the bean comes from Queen's Estate in Brazil, and then the variety is Yellow Bourbon. There are also some coffee beans named because the beans themselves have a unique aroma. In order to allow consumers to better associate the flavor of this bean, the processor will give the beans some associative, elegant and appropriate names. For example, the Front Street Costa Rica strawberry candy in the Front Street bean list is because this bean will have a relatively obvious strawberry fudge flavor; or Kenya small tomato, because the bean itself will have an obvious tomato tone, so Front Street changed its name from the original Kenya Assalia (processing plant) to small tomato ~
There are also some manufacturers who will give beans some names with special connotations, such as the flower chief in Qianjie Bean List, because this bean won the championship in the raw bean competition that year, and then the raw bean company gave it a name when it was introduced. The meaning of "Hundred Flowers Champion" not only points out its champion status, but also implies that it has great potential. Of course, if a certain coffee bean wins the championship in a certain event, or it has a higher grade and higher quality, then the name of this coffee bean may also have a corresponding grade suffix. For example, what is the ranking of COE, BOP, and TOH, or coffee grade suffixes such as AA, G1, and NO.1.
In addition to these naming rules, there are also some exceptional and unusual naming methods. For example, Mantelin, which is often mentioned on Front Street, is neither the name of origin, variety, nor the name of a certain manufacturer. It is a mispronunciation of a local tribe named Mandainin, but due to some unforeseen circumstances and coincidences, it has become synonymous with the entire Sumatra coffee. Almost all coffee produced in Sumatra can be sold under the name Manternin, but in order to distinguish the differences between them, producers will name the Manternin based on its origin, raw bean characteristics, or brand. For example, among the bean lists on Qianjie, there are Golden Mantonin and Lin Dong Mantonin.
The above is a rough collection of naming rules for coffee beans. Everyone should know how to interpret the name of a coffee bean. It is very simple ~
