Recommended high-quality pink bourbon coffee like rose summer! What is the difference between the taste of red and yellow bourbon and the taste of pink bourbon?
In the article "Red Bourbon and Yellow Bourbon" two days ago, Qianjie shared that recently, red Bourbon and yellow Bourbon have suddenly become popular varieties in the coffee circle, so friends often come to Qianjie and ask for these two beans. Then, two days ago, another interview was conducted on the street, and it was discovered that many friends were attracted by the colors in the names of these two varieties. According to them, the color in the name couldn't help but make people think of how delicious the coffee brewed with this bean was.
Indeed, when I first started Qianjie, I was often attracted by those coffees with colors in their names, such as "Pink Bourbon", which was one of the "colored varieties" that attracted Qianjie at that time. Since Qianjie has already introduced red bourbon and yellow bourbon in the article linked above, Qianjie will directly share with you in this article what the origin of pink bourbon is.
What is pink bourbon? Like red bourbon and yellow bourbon, the pink color of pink bourbon refers to the color of the outer skin of the coffee fruit. It is a relatively rare variety. Pink bourbon grown in Central America is usually cultivated by crossing red and yellow bourbon. But unlike red bourbon and yellow bourbon, pink bourbon's beautiful appearance is not easy to maintain, because the color is determined by the recessive gene in the pollen. When red or yellow dominant genes are encountered, they are concealed and cannot be represented, so farmers who grow pink bourbon sometimes even harvest some pink-orange bourbon.
If you want to maintain beautiful pink color, the best way is to grow pink bourbon separately from other colors of bourbon to reduce interference, so that it is possible to stably produce pink bourbon. The origin of pink bourbon is still controversial, but it is generally believed that pink bourbon originated in the San Adolfo area of the Huila region in Colombia from the 1950s to the 1980s. At that time, Cenicafe, a research unit under the Colombia Coffee Producers Association (FNC), set up an experimental farm there, where hundreds of varieties were grown for experimental research.
It happened that coffee in Colombia was being eroded by leaf rust, so local ranchers in San Adolfo bought some disease-resistant varieties on this experimental farm and planted them back. Among them are some disease-resistant saplings named "Orange Tree" that will later be called "Pink Bourbon". Later, the farmers discovered that some of the fruits of the disease-resistant varieties planted were pink in color, and both the tree appearance and yield were very similar to the Bourbon variety, so the local farmers directly named it "Bourbom Rosado". In Spanish, Rosado means "pink", which translates to "pink bourbon."
But in recent years, people have found that the bean appearance and flavor characteristics of some powder bourbon are very different from traditional bourbon. They are not round and small, but are slender and pointed bodies that are closer to Rose Summer. The flavor is also characterized by rose flowers and citrus acid. This makes people wonder whether these pink bourbon are really "bourbon" varieties?
Therefore, many laboratories have identified and studied the gene of pink bourbon, and the final result is the same as that shared by Qianjie. Through the identification report, everyone found that pink bourbon is actually not unique. For example, in "The Fourth Wave of Fine Coffee Science", there is a 2022 pink bourbon identification report, which points out that pink bourbon is only part of the direct line of bourbon, and some pink bourbon are made from iron pica, Ethiopia. Native species, and even rose summer. All in all, the general meaning is that the blood of pink bourbon is not pure. Since then, pink bourbon, like many other rare varieties, has become a frequent visitor to various events because of its unique flavor. In order to have a taste of pink bourbon, Qianjie bought a piece of pink bourbon grown by a famous village in Colombia, Holy Manor, to see if this bourbon was really as tempting and delicious as its color.

In order to better taste the flavor of the bean itself, Qianjie chose a medium and shallow curve to bake, so that the coffee could highlight the flavor and have enough sweetness. To this end, we need to use parameters with high extraction efficiency for brewing, as follows: powder amount 15g, powder and water ratio 1:15, grinding degree 75%~80% of No. 20 sieve, water temperature 92°C, extraction time is 2 minutes.
During the grinding process, Qianjie smelled some dark berries and dry aroma similar to grapefruit. When you taste it after the brewing is completed, you can feel the floral flavors of citrus, berries, grapefruit, and grapefruit. The ending rhyme is oolong tea. The overall taste is full, clean, and the aftertaste is long, which is quite good ~

For many novice friends who want to learn to make coffee by hand, in addition to studying the underlying logic of extraction, if you want to make a pot of coffee well, you must have a convenient filling kettle. Although Qianjie often jokes that as long as water can be poured, no matter what kind of equipment can be used to make coffee, this is only for people who are in the circle.
