Helsinki, April 8 (Xinhua) A new study by Finnish and German researchers shows that drinking coffee can slightly reduce inflammation and help regulate high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels in the body.

The researchers stated that they asked 47 subjects who had a coffee drinking habit to quit drinking coffee for a month, and each of them drank four cups of brewed coffee a day in the second month and eight cups of such coffee a day in the third month.

After horizontal analysis of the subjects' blood samples, the researchers found that in the last month of the trial, the levels of pro-inflammatory interleukin-18 in the subjects' blood decreased by 8%. 8-isoprostaglandin levels decreased by 16%, but the level of anti-inflammatory factor adiponectin increased by 6%. The researchers believe that drinking coffee can slow down the inflammation that is not obvious in the clinic.

The researchers also found that drinking coffee also regulates the level of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in the body. The subjects' cholesterol levels improved in the last month of the trial, with healthy high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels rising by 7%.
