On the eve of the United Nations Rio 20 Summit on Sustainable Development, Nestle's coffee development project in Yunnan won the international award of the 2012 World Business and Development Award. The award is a high recognition of Nestle's long-term commitment to the development of Yunnan coffee industry.

Nestl é stood out from a total of 115 applications from 38 countries and finally won the award, which is the only award awarded to China of the 11 award-winning projects in the world.

Nestle's coffee development strategy in Yunnan, China fully reflects Nestle's concept of "creating shared value". Nestl é believes that for a company to achieve long-term success, it needs to create value not only for its shareholders, but also for the community in which it operates. Based on this concept, Nestl é began to develop coffee projects in Simao (Pu'er) and Jinghong (Xishuangbanna) in 1988, and launched an agricultural technical assistance service project in 1992 to encourage and support local coffee planting. In 1997, a pilot demonstration farm with a total area of 60 hectares was opened, providing planting, quality control and processing technology training to thousands of farmers. Coffee cultivation has benefited more than 20,000 local farmers.

Mr. Di Kewei, President and CEO of Nestl é Greater China, said, "this honor should be attributed to the joint efforts of Cannon, governments at all levels in Yunnan Province and Nestl é. It fully proves the effectiveness of the win-win model of 'creating shared value'. Nestl é will continue to support the coffee industry in Yunnan, help more farmers improve their planting level, and benefit the development of the local economy. "

In order to further extend the concept of "creating shared value" throughout the coffee supply chain and benefit all stakeholders from farmers to consumers to Nestle, Nestle launched the visionary Nestle Coffee Global Action Plan in 2011. Through this program, Nestl é cooperates with farmers, suppliers, communities, governments and related organizations to develop coffee into a healthy and sustainable industry and an effective way to improve people's living standards.

In the past 20 years, the hard work of Nestl é in Yunnan has had a profound impact on the coffee industry and economic development in the region. At present, Yunnan has gradually developed into a high-quality small-seed coffee bean producing area with vigorous development, rich profits and deeply concerned by the global coffee industry.
