Japan has quirky coffee shops themed with cats and owls, and recently a new one in Tokyo featuring animal dolls. Different from other coffee shops, the employees of this animal doll coffee shop are all animal dolls, and only serve animal dolls, but humans are not allowed to enter.

Yawarakan, the cafe, claims that 85 percent of Japanese adult women own at least one stuffed animal, and 60 percent decorate their beds with such cuddly toys. This inspired the store owner to explore business opportunities, so he opened this store dedicated to serving animal dolls.

Unlike regular coffee shops, Yawarakan coffee shops require reservations, and its customers--the stuffed animals--are mailed into the coffee shop, and they cannot exceed the size of a hand.

Once the animal arrives in the store, it is taken to a reserved seat for a range of real meals including berry smoothies, main course omelets, coffee and pancakes. The attendants are a snake and a monkey, which are also stuffed animals.

After dinner, customers engage in entertainment, such as playing cards together, listening to ghost stories, etc., and before bed, the coffee shop owner reads bedtime stories to them. When they wake up the next morning, they are packaged and mailed to their owners.

In addition to sending the stuffed animals back, Yawarakan Coffee Shop also comes with souvenirs and a collection of photos taken of the stuffed animals having a good time in the store, plus the right to download photos from the store's website. The average customer can stamp the card once every time he visits, in exchange for prizes such as magnets and cups.

Yawarakan charges 4, 968 yen (about $40) for a basic package. Spending all that money on stuffed animals may seem silly, but the concept has proved surprisingly popular in Japan. Currently, the bi-monthly service is fully booked until mid-September.
