Research reports show that drinking coffee does not lead to high blood pressure.

Healthy women who drink at least six cups of coffee a day are no more likely to develop high blood pressure within 10 years than those who quit coffee, according to a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. On the other hand, women who drank only three cups of coffee a day were more likely to develop high blood pressure than regular coffee drinkers or coffee abstainers.
The lead author of the study, Dr. Edelwal, told Reuters Health Newsletter that men had no significant effect on blood pressure no matter how many cups of coffee they drank in a day. However, coffee abstainers are less likely to develop high blood pressure than any coffee drinker, but the impact is still "relatively small."
Edelwar, an associate professor at the Medical Center of the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands, said that since the research report did not show that drinking coffee was harmful to human health, there was no reason to stop it.

Edelwal added that even if drinking coffee increases blood pressure in some people, the results do not show that drinking coffee can lead to heart disease in healthy people. However, he also stressed that the study focused on healthy adults, and the findings did not apply to people with high blood pressure or other factors that increase the risk of heart disease.
