It is the end of August and the hot weather is still going on. I always want an ice drink in this hot weather. Some people will like chilled coffee with ice directly added to the coffee, while others will like iced coffee made from ice drop kettles.

But there is a difference between iced coffee and iced coffee.

Iced coffee belongs to hot extraction and then cooled with ice. The original solution is extracted at high temperature for a short time, and its caffeine content is relatively higher than that of ice drop coffee, and it is easy to extract bitterness.

Ice drop coffee belongs to cold extraction, which is slowly extracted by dripping coffee powder with ice water. The bitterness, astringency and caffeine in coffee are difficult to dissolve in ice water. Therefore, the ice drop coffee has a lower caffeine content and a more mellow taste. It is precisely because of the unique flavor of ice drop coffee. Favored by many consumers. Now this tall iced coffee can also be made at home.

Let's start making an ice drop coffee.

The recommended powder-to-water ratio is 1:10. This time, the editor uses 40g powder to extract 400ml's ice drop coffee.

Step 1: prepare the material

Coffee beans

Ice cubes (more prepared, editor prepared 600g)

Water (editor has prepared 50ml)

Ice drip kettle

Bean grinder

Electronic weighing

Step 2: grind coffee beans

Take 40g coffee beans as spare, and then take a small amount of coffee beans to test the grinding degree of the grinder. The coffee powder is adjusted to be similar to the granulated sugar. Then grind 40g coffee beans into powder.

Step 3: cloth powder and pre-soaking

Pour coffee powder into the filter cup and gently pat to make the coffee powder more uniform. Then pour the coffee powder in a circle with cold water to make the coffee powder moist. Then cover the filter cup.

Step 4: add ice water

There are two ways to add ice water.

The first is commonly used in traditional curling, weighing the quality of ice water before pouring it into the curling. Because the traditional curling kettle has only one opening, you can't add ice after adding ice.

The second is a curling kettle which is suitable for curling with a lid and an open design, and the sharing kettle at the lower end is engraved with scale. When the coffee liquid reaches the desired volume, the extraction can be stopped by closing the valve. So there is no need to weigh the ice water in the curling, just fill the curling with ice cubes and then add a small amount of water to the curling to form an ice-water mixture. (this is also one of the advantages of the Tiamo HG2606 ice drop appliance used this time.)

Step 5: assemble and adjust the valve

Assemble the curling kettle. Rotate the valve stem to adjust the dripping speed of ice water. Too fast dripping speed may lead to insufficient extraction and lack of flavor. Too slow can lead to excessive extraction, which may lead to bitterness and astringency. This time we are using a drip rate of 40 drops per minute, about 2 drops in 3 seconds.

Step 6: wait for enjoyment

Observe the scale in the sharing pot and close the valve to stop the extraction when the 400ml mark is reached.

When drinking, add ice to the cup for better flavor. If the extracted coffee liquid is sealed in the refrigerator, it will taste better after 24 hours of fermentation.

There are some tips in the production process.

1. The filter cup of this curling kettle has a filter hole to facilitate the filtration of coffee grounds. If you have a requirement for cleanliness, you can put a wet round filter paper at the bottom of the filter cup to improve the cleanliness of the coffee.

2. The filter cup cover is a water separation design, which is helpful to the diversion of water droplets. Make the extraction more uniform. If you are worried about the uneven place of the utensils, you can spread a piece of moist round filter paper on the pre-soaked coffee powder to further make the extraction even.

3. Now that the temperature is high, you'd better pay attention to the ice-water mixture in the curling during the ice drop extraction process, because the temperature of the water is low enough when there is both ice and water. If it is found that almost all the solid ice melts, ice should be added in time to maintain the state of the ice-water mixture.
