Total coffee exports from Latin America increased by 6.04%
The Guatemala National Coffee Association told local media that total coffee exports from nine coffee-producing countries in Latin America (except Brazil) this harvest season increased by 6.04% compared with the same period last year.
According to the Guatemala National Coffee Association, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Dominica, Colombia and Peru exported a total of 24,713,982 bags of coffee (60 kg each) between October last year and July this year (this harvest season).
The association noted that the total was 6.04 per cent higher than the 23.3 million 5393 bags from October 2011 to September 2012 (the last harvest season).
According to this statistics, among the nine countries, only Costa Rica and Honduras showed reverse growth in coffee exports, down 0.26% and 15.04% respectively.
In other countries, coffee exports in Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru and Dominica grew by 16.87%, 7.11%, 3.59%, 7.34%, 28.16%, 12.33% and 10.22% respectively this harvest season.
Coffee farmers in Central America and Peru have been suffering from leaf spot for two years, and the impact of the disease is expected to continue until 2014.
