Last Updated: 2024/09/19, According to a report in French newspaper Le Figaro on June 22, a Nazi-themed coffee shop in Indonesia was closed a year ago because of strong condemnation at home and abroad, and recently reopened, decorated with Nazi symbols and portraits of Hitler.

The coffee shop, called SoldatenKaffee (soldiers Cafe), is located in Bandung, southeast of Jakarta, Indonesia. The cafe was accused of inciting racial hatred and its owner, Henry Mulyana, was threatened and went out of business.

In order to escape the condemnation of international public opinion, Muriana expanded the theme of the cafe to include World War II, with introductions by former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Soviet dictator Stalin, along with Nazi-era memorabilia. Nazi atrocities have been widely condemned all over the world. A year after the closure, Muriana's lawyer told AFP that the cafe had been renovated to remove Hitler's Nazi logo. But when the cafe reopened on Saturday, it still had three cast iron eagle decorations with Nazi symbols on its wings.

The Soldier Cafe was built in 2011 and was initially ignored until it was reported by a local English-language media in July 2013. Due to the strong pressure of international public opinion, the Indonesian authorities summoned the owner of the cafe, who then closed the cafe. In Europe, Nazi glory propaganda is banned in many countries, but there is no such rule in Indonesia.
