Perhaps traditional processes and new technologies should be integrated more naturally. A mug developed by Finnish coffee roasters and advertising companies may provide us with a different highlight.

The biggest feature of the mug, called MUKI, is that it has an E ink display attached to it, which allows users to synchronize photos and text to the face with the help of a mobile app. The magic of it is that when the cup is filled with hot coffee, the picture will appear automatically.

Smart Mug-1

How does MUKI work?

There is an TEG electronic component at the bottom of the Muki cup. When the hot coffee is poured in, the heat is transferred to the TEG and converted into electricity to drive the e-ink screen. When the temperature sensor detects a rise in the temperature of the cup body, the e-ink display will automatically display the photo. Every time the Muki cup is filled with hot coffee, a brand new picture appears on the e-ink display on the cup, and when it is filled with hot coffee again, a different picture appears.

Smart Mug-2

Users can change the content of the photos at will, and sweet photos with loved ones or inspirational photos are good materials. In addition, the Muki coffee cup has a low-power Bluetooth module that can be connected to a smartphone, and users can change photos or upload them to social networks through matching apps on their phones. In addition, other related settings for this coffee cup can also be done through smart apps.

Of course, the use of power-priority E-ink screen will inevitably lead to mediocre display effect, at present, full-color, high-resolution photos can not be expected. The function of the Muki mug is not only to display pictures on the cup surface, but because of the built-in temperature sensor, Muki can monitor the temperature of the coffee and display the temperature on the cup surface to remind users whether the coffee is hot.

The Muki mug is not yet available to the public, and the two companies are recruiting 2500 test takers for internal testing, and if the hardware test goes well, they may see the magic mug on the Finnish open market by 2015.
