Last Updated: 2024/11/17, Erqi coffee and its traditional culture were listed on the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity on the 5th.

This is the decision of the eighth meeting of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held in Baku, capital of Azerbaijan.

At this meeting, after two days of deliberation on the 4th and 5th, experts from more than 100 countries and regions approved 25 new items, including China's abacus, Korean pickled kimchi culture, Japanese food, Georgian red wine brewing technology, and Mediterranean food culture, to be included in the UN non-legacy list.

Turkish coffee is a kind of coffee that uses the original brewing method, thick and fragrant. Turkey, Greece and the Balkan countries, which were historically ruled by the Ottoman Turkish Empire, still drink Turkish coffee.

There is a Turkish proverb: "drink your cup of Turkish coffee, remember your friendship for forty years." Coffee shops with signs can be found on the streets of Turkey. Many Turks, especially women, also like to use the residue marks left over from drinking Turkish coffee, which adds a little mystery to Turkish coffee.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization believes that the intangible cultural heritage brings a sense of identity and history to the owner community, which is the key to ensuring cultural diversity and human creativity. The Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, adopted in 2003, calls for the protection of oral traditions and expressions, performing arts, social practices, ceremonies and festivals, knowledge and practices relating to nature and the universe, and traditional handicrafts.
