A study from the University of Sussex in the UK shows that coffee is not only loved by people, but also by bees. The stems, leaves and seeds of some plants contain caffeine, which can be used as a natural insect repellent and attract bees to pollinate honey.

The researchers tried to expose bees to caffeine and found that bees kept flying to the place where caffeine was found, even if the caffeine was gone. Bees will swing in a figure-8 dance, swinging their hips and moving in a figure-8 shape to tell other partners the location of caffeine.

Studies have found that caffeine can refresh bees, increase memory and make bees spread pollen more efficiently. Bees that have consumed caffeine can still remember the fragrance of flowers after 24 hours, three times as much as bees without caffeine. The study also found that caffeine makes bees go to honey more often and dance more often, and the researchers speculate that caffeine excitates and makes bees dance more often. (mid-to-instant)
