UTZ means good in Quiche (a Mayan language), so UTZ-certified coffee is good coffee. UTZ member companies at each link in the coffee supply chain can view each batch of UTZ certified coffee beans as they move through the supply chain: from the estate to everywhere.

1: UTZ certification

UTZ is an independent certification body that certifies coffee with traceability. UTZ means "good" in Quiche (a Mayan language), so UTZ certified coffee can be called "good" coffee. UTZ member companies at each stage of the coffee supply chain can view each batch of UTZ-certified coffee beans as it moves along the supply chain: from the estate to the processing plant, through traders to the roaster. Members in each link need to make corresponding treatment on their traceability website (good inside portal) when handling coffee beans: for example, traders need to indicate the sales target, time, quantity, etc. on the Internet after selling UTZ coffee; this batch of coffee beans will be transferred from the seller to the purchaser, and so on, and finally reach the terminal links such as large supermarkets; in the supply chain, enterprises in each link need to carefully record the coffee beans they handle truthfully. UTZ processes membership applications based on criteria that assess whether a business is eligible for UTZ membership at each stage: for example, how the growing farm minimizes the use of water, fertilizers and pesticides in the coffee production process, how the processing plant produces coffee in a socially and environmentally responsible manner, etc. UTZ certification brings with it the characteristics of a business committed to sustainable development, good agricultural practices and social responsibility, and traceability of its goods.

2: Rainforest Alliance

Rainforest certification has frogs on its logo, so Rainforest Alliance Certified Coffee, or Frog Bean for short, is a nonprofit international environmental NGO. The Alliance takes measures to protect coffee farms and their surrounding ecosystems, limit pesticide use, and manage waste emissions; only coffee that has been evaluated and certified can be called Rainforest Alliance certified coffee. For coffee, the alliance requires traditional farming methods that protect ecosystems and are grown in the shade of native trees. The Rainforest Alliance's mission is to conserve biodiversity and achieve sustainable livelihoods by changing land-use patterns, business and consumer behaviour.

3: Organic certification

Organic food refers to food produced without the use of chemical compounds (such as pesticides, fertilizers, additives, etc.), and radiation, industrial solvents, and chemical food additives cannot be used in the production process of organic food.

The above are respectively: China organic certification mark, EU organic certification mark, EU organic product mark, US organic certification mark, Japanese organic certification mark, German organic certification mark. The purpose of organic product certification is to promote and accelerate the development of organic industry, ensure the quality of organic product production and processing, meet the increasing demand of consumers for organic products, reduce and prevent agricultural chemicals such as pesticides and fertilizers and agricultural wastes from polluting the environment, and promote sustainable development of society, economy and environment.
