Green Mountain expands its share of policy cup coffee in cooperation with Starbucks
Green Mountain Coffee Co. (Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc) announced on Wednesday that it will expand its cooperation with Weibo (SBUX), which will provide Starbucks Vue coffee bags for Green Mountain's new Keurig Vue single-cup coffee machine.
The move is part of Green Mountain's efforts to ensure its dominance in the single-cup coffee maker market.
Earlier this month, Starbucks announced plans to launch its own single-cup coffee maker, Verismo, which some investors fear will pose a competitive threat to Green Mountain's Keurig.
Green Mountain currently controls more than 3/4 of the single cup coffee market in the United States. Last month, the company announced that it would launch a new single-cup coffee maker, Keurig Vue, in response to increasing competition.
Green Mountain said on Wednesday that it expected to start distributing Starbucks Vue coffee bags on its website to US stores, department stores and hypermarkets this fall.
In addition to providing Vue coffee bags for Green Mountain's new Keurig Vue single cup coffee machine, Starbucks is the only authorized coffee brand for Green Mountain Keurig K-Cup coffee machine.
