Western Food Restaurant

In 1897, Germany occupied Qingdao and founded Prince Henry Hotel on Tianping Road, which was divided into three places: East, Central and West. The East is located at No. 29 Taiping Road (today's municipal office), the medium is located at No. 31 Taiping Road (Trestle Hotel), and the West is located at No. 33 Taiping Road (Qingdao Daily News). It is a place for German banquets. After the Japanese occupation of Qingdao, it changed its name to Qingdao Grand Hotel, mainly operating hotels and meals, specializing in entertaining Japanese customers. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the medium and West were occupied by the US military headquarters.

No. 1 Zhongshan Road International Club is established by European and American overseas Chinese businessmen in Qingdao. The front and rear gardens are mainly engaged in western food. It is a place for banquets and dancing for foreigners. Only foreigners and compradors of foreign firms can participate in the dance here.

In August, the Germans built a two-story building near the seaside of Nanhai Road, which was later redeemed to the White Russians and renamed as the seaside hotel. After liberation, it changed its name to Huiquan Restaurant.

In the middle of Guangxi Road, the Germans set up a small salon-style western restaurant called Max Hotel, which is only for a small number of foreigners to have dinner and dance.

The Japanese opened the Dachen Building Restaurant on Jiaozhou Road and operated Japanese food. In addition, many small restaurants were opened on Liaocheng Road, Linqing Road, Qingping Road and other places, and Kabuki was hired to receive Japanese customers. White Russians set up bars in Cangkou Road, Guanxian Road and Huiquan to receive American sailors and hire white Russian dancers.

In the 1930s, the first western restaurant opened by the Chinese was the Donghai Hotel. Zhang Xianbo was in Huiquanjiao. After that, Cui Ziyun opened a Datong Western Restaurant at the corner of Henan Road, Baoding Road, and Shanghai Hotel Western Restaurant appeared at the intersection of Zhongshan Road, Hunan Road, mainly to receive customers from the industrial and commercial circles. Wang Xiuchen, the coffee manager of Qingdao, opened a restaurant in Nanhai Road, which specializes in receiving American sailors.

During the second Japanese occupation of Qingdao, the Japanese gendarmerie translator Jia opened the Xinxin Hotel Western Restaurant on Anhui Road, and Sun opened the Asian Hotel Western Restaurant on Cangkou Road. The Japanese and puppet military once set up a western restaurant in the welcome hotel.

Qingdao coffee

Located at the intersection of Zhongshan Road and Qufu Road, originally built by the Greeks, hired Chinese Wang Xiuchen as the manager, and then the Greeks returned home, the original shop continued to be operated by Wang Xiuchen and Lu Shoushan. After that, we set up a branch in Huiquan bathing beach, which specializes in seaweed washers and does business every summer. After liberation, it changed its name to Qingdao Hotel and operated Chinese food.

Forrest Bakery

Founded around 1902 by German Forrest, bread and cakes are produced in the basement at the intersection of Zhongshan Road and Hubei Road. Bread, cakes and coffee are sold in the first floor store, which are often attended by Chinese and foreign people.

White Russian woman Jonah, in 1920, opened a bakery at No. 8 Zhongshan Road, selling western food and sweets. The shop is called Yona, and has a coffee teahouse, employing five Chinese apprentices and eight bread workers. In 1930, Jonah's partner, Badges, modeled on Jonah's business model, opened the Bazis West Point factory at 19 Longkou Road, and the two companies began to compete.

The earliest Toyo pastry and confectionery factory in Qingdao was set up by the Japanese Fukuda to hire pastry and confectionery technicians from Japan to specialize in the production of Japanese-style pastries and sweets. Such as cherry blossom fudge, milk fudge, toffee fudge and so on.
