Brazil will produce 47.54 million bags of coffee this year.
At the International Coffee week, which opened on the 9th, the Brazilian National supply Company predicted that as the world's largest coffee producer, Brazil's coffee production will reach 47.54 million bags (60 kilograms each) in 2013, down 6.46 percent from the previous year.
The main reason for the decline in coffee production in Brazil this year is that this year is in the small year of the biennial coffee production cycle. However, the Brazilian national supply company still believes that it is quite a good result to be able to obtain such production in a small year.
The company said that the total area of coffee planted in Brazil this year reached 2.31 million hectares, a slight decrease of 0.74% compared with last year. Among them, Minas Gerais is the largest producing area, with a planting area of 1.24 million hectares, accounting for 53.49% of the country's total area.
On the same day, International Coffee week opened in Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais. More than 200 representatives of international coffee organizations from 77 countries around the world participated in the five-day event. A contract of 20 million reais (US $8.7 million) is expected to be signed during the event, resulting in an indirect investment of 30 million reais (US $13.04 million).
